Default Windshield Question

So.... I currently have the HD 10 recurve on my 2014 FLHX. I still get a little buffeting, especially at highway speed.

Anything that is taller would get into my line of sight.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what might work to get the air a little higher over my head.

Thanks in advance

for me....the Kury triple tree deflector helped some, but adding the big HD chrome fangs made the most difference in helping to almost stop the buffeting.
In fact I rode 150 miles today and installed my oem 5" windshield for grins, had some turbulence at my sun glasses but not unbearable by any means. Before completely stock the buffeting would actually cause my upper and lower teeth to rattle, vibrate, and some blurred vision as well.

Hey medic. Give your height with your question and even narrow it down to approximate torso length. Seats play a big part to where the shield is either good or bad. I have three seats on my bike and they change your height.
Don't know if they make an icecream scoop for Rushmore's? Not bad on my 11 FLHR along with the fangs and lowers, better than what I have now by a long shot!
I'm 6'. Tried the economy LRS in both 8" (adequate for sure), then the 10". They are a fantastic bargain (nab a couple on sale, sell the one you don't like as much on Craig's).

I am 5'10" and went to a Freedom Shield for my TK. In so doing, was able to go from 10" to a 8" and less buffeting.

When I had my batwing, the combo of lowers, fangs, and a triple tree deflector did the trick. I could ride with a stock shorty street glide shields with no bufeting. But my shield of choice was a 10" wind splitter.

Good luck.

Yes, they mount on the forks.

I had them on my Road King and they made a huge difference for rider and passenger.

I now have a Limited and put a recurve shield and a Kurry deflector that mounts to the frame. The wind is fine for me but my wife still says she still gets a lot more wind than she did on the King with the fangs.

Anybody try the Long Ride Shield that is wider and flat on the top, that can comment on the wind for the passenger? Or any other ideas.

You can mod the HD fangs just a tad and you can put them on a TK. I have. I only use them in the winter though. Too hot in TX to use them in the summer.

Pic is when I was running a 10" Freedom Shield. Ended up switching to an 8" You can also see the fangs.

With 8" Freedom Shield:

I've spent a lot of time and $ over the years trying to deal with turbulence, mostly on Goldwings and Ventures. I got my 2016 Ultra Classic in January this year, and immediately felt the need to deal with cockpit turbulence that seemed extreme compared to my recently sold Yamaha Venture.

I tried a taller 15" HD windscreen, and it helped a lot, but the windscreen cracked at the faring mounts; it seemed to flex way too much. When the weather got hot I removed my lowers, and discovered that the cockpit is a bit quieter with the lowers off.

The taller windscreen is a problem in city riding on hot days. Not enough airflow.

It is a bit of a dichotomy: the needs of riding at city street speeds compared to droning on the highway at 80 mph for hours on end. A bike properly needs two setups, one to deal with each riding environment. But the batwing can only provide a single setup, unlike my Yamaha FJR with its electrically adjustable windscreen, which provides a very smooth ride in many different environments.

I've decided to stick with the stock 10" screen, and deal with highway turbulence by changing my riding posture as needed: leaning in closer to the faring when the turbulence gets unbearable. Otherwise, turbulence seems to me to be a problem without a solution, given the nature of the bike. I've decided to stop whining so much about turbulence. It is what it is, and there isn't much that can be done about it apart from selling the bike and driving a car, and that ain't gonna happen!

I would check into Freedom Shields ...... They are constructed to move air higher.
