Thanks Jim, and Semper Fi! I was fortunate to be active long enough to celebrate the bicentennial in '75. E4, and I still can't recall everything clearly. Unlike you, I did three years then came home, and for awhile wondered why I did - you're probably familiar with that feeling. I've got a cousin in Kentucky who's done some branch jumping too, bot never the Corps. I enjoy teasing him about his eligibility for veterans status... : )
Take care, and thanks for your service. Don't know where this country would be without its volunteers.
To all, many thanks for the input. It's been a learning experience, and I've visited all sites recommended. The first thing learned was to stay with a polycarbonate shield, so I'm using that as a prime criteria.
Not done shopping yet and still welcome comments from folks who've done this themselves.
FWIW, I stand at 5' 8". The stock shield is at or slightly above my line of sight, so I'll be looking to drop a couple of inches with whatever I purchase.
+1 on Long Ride Shields. Great product, price, and customer service. I have several depending on what helmet I'm wearing, riding distance and weather. For what it's worth, I'm also 5'8" and the windsplitter didn't work for me. I've learned windshields are kind of like seats. Everyone has an opinion. Good luck with the search!
I'm 6' even with a 34 inch inseam. I bought the RK wind splitter in June. Love it. Yeah, you get some wind on the face or helmet, but it's smooth wind. Nothing like that eyeball rattling s**t I got from the stock windshield. I like the splitter because I don't like looking through a windshield, and this one works perfect for me. No buffeting and a clear view in front of you. Like riding without a shield only you don't get blown backward at chest level.
I recently picked up a Long Ride shield 20" 75% tint (I'm a tall guy) and its working out great so far. The shield cost less than $100, can't go wrong IMO
Question: At this point I'm sold on the LRS recurve. To get it right, I'd need the 18". My question is, would the 16" work better because of the recurve?
I has a 2015 RK, had an 18" LRS recurve. Loved it. I am 5'10" and with the stock, I was looking through it most of the time, with the 18", I was looking over it. I had tried the 16" and it was too short for me. Try the 16", just do't remove the protective plastic and you can send it back to swap it out.
I do have an 18" in medium tint that I never installed on my RK that I am getting ready to put up for sale once I get the rest of the stuff I took off the RK when I traded it ready. New in box. If interested, PM me.
