Default Heated Gear issue

2016 Road Glide Special

I ride year round except in snow and ice but frigid temps don't stop me since I don't have far to go to work. For Christmas my wife bought me some heated gear (jacket liner) and I love it. I bought me some heated gloves since then but when I plug them both in my check engine light comes on. Both say 2.2 amp draw.

Now I will say I plugged them in together on a single controller and not the dual controller but the draw should be the same, correct?

Anyone else have this issue.

Both are Gerbings gear

Are you plugging them into the power port in the dash or into the battery charger pigtail? If it's the power port you may be drawing more current than the system is designed for. I run a jacket liner and gloves off my charger pigtail with no issues whatsoever.

Off the pigtail.

Do you use the dual controller?

I use the plug that is located under the seat with no issues.

As stated above, connect a pigtail to the battery to plug in your heated gear and you won't have a problem.

Dual controller will keep the jacket from getting to hot and the gloves just right. Worth the money.

Dont use the trickle charger pigtail if that's what you are referencing. You need a deliberate pigtail to your battery that has an inline fuse. Should have come with your gear.

Use the dual controller regardless...

I agree.

The installation instructions for my First Gear heated gear said: "DO NOT USE" the battery charger pigtail. Every time I mention it I get a bunch of posts saying: "I do it all the time and it's fine."
