What can be done to the stock air cleaner to make it flow better? I'm gonna put a K&N filter in to start, but is there anything else? I want it to look as stock as possible
from what I have red on here the stock rushmore AC flows more than you will ever need and the same goes for the stock filter, K&N isn't necessary for 2014 on up Harley touring bikes
There's a lot of debate on here about the need add a "high flow" air cleaner to the rushmore bikes for a stage 1. Whatever you decide, Fuel Moto sells a kit that comes with a new backplate that fits perfectly with the stock cover.
Just put the SE kit on my FLHTK, same as I had on my 2010 Ultra. I have the stock cover on it and have the option of the naked look as well. $160 and it took me about an hour to install. Could of done it quicker, but I like to take my time so I don't have to do it twice. Paired it with a FP3 and the this week Power Duals.

Cut away some of the plastic backplate so that more air can get to your new, higher flowing filter element.
Use an External Breather System (EBS) so that you have only clean, oxygen rich air going into the engine.
Or you can go with the Outlaw 606 HiFlow System that has a built in EBS and was designed to fit the Stock Rushmore Cover.

Yes they do I have one myself but blocked off the holes so it cant suck in all that hot engine heat. Hot air offers little if any performance.
This is just another one of my "lessons learned" that I'm trying to pass on to save the next guy some wasted money and or more parts sitting on the shelf.

Put in the K&N air filter, and it will be the last air filter you buy for that Bike, because
it is washable. Then get a DK Custom external breather system and install it.
If that is the only modification you do to it, you can enjoy riding your Bike.
