I replaced my stock bulbs with a set of LED's from Fuel Moto (the Power Commander people). Cost like $125 but was straight plug and play. Their bulbs have the large cooling fins on them. I use a short antenna on the back instead or the stock whip antenna and the reception is very good and no issues at all with the headlight.

I do realise that, but, if he can't get radio reception with the $65 one, and the radio is important to him as well as night vision, then this may be his best option.

My $65 option that causes NO radio interference. I also have my antenna hidden under the seat.
