Default Handlebar removal question

I'm going to change out the handlebars on my 17 Ultra for something a little more comfortable for me. I did most of the work on my old Heritage, but this Ultra Limited is all new to me.

I've watched videos on changing out the bars, but I have one quick question:

In the videos it shows how to remove the ignition switch to remove the small black accessory switch panel, and I know this will leave your forks in the locked position. The video mentions a special tool or even taking a screwdriver to reset the lock tumblers.

Am I wrong, but when you remove the ignition switch, wouldn't it go right back into place? Meaning, couldn't I remove the ignition switch, remove the accessory switch panel, then put the ignition switch right back in?

The forks will not lock until you turn them to the full left lock position. I inadvertently locked mine when I upgraded the suspension recently and I was able to get the lock mechanism back in with a bit of fiddling and unlock them.

I did mine without removing the lock mechanism.

The accessory switch panel has a notch in it to remove it without removing the ignition switch. Just leave the switch where it is.

Right, you don't have to remove the lock, panel comes off without it

Leave the front wheel pointed straight ahead. Remove the lock and panel. Just don't turn the bars to full lock. The lock will drop right back in, no fuss.

Leave the lock alone. Use masking tape on both sides of the switch trim panel, because you will be moving the bars full left and right with some wiggle action to remove the panel.
