So I am getting off the 101 to the 25 to head back into Hollister Sunday morning. Pulling away from the light I hear a bang and my wife is pulling on my jacket. I pull over and the entire trunk has flipped back like a bad toupee. The front prongs on the Drag Specialties quick disconnect had snapped off. My wife was leaning against it and almost flipped off the back. In their defense I have a Ric Rack luggage set up and had the trunk packed full, but still! I broke out the bungees and jerry rigged the whole thing back together till I could get home. Kinda looked like Jed Clampet on a Harley. I ripped the POS off and re-mounted it on the stock platform. I never really used the quick disconnect, just thought it would be nice to have. Live and learn.
I bought an after market tour pack for my road king. First problem was a series of hardware problems. Eventually replaced all the hardware with HD. Then on a trip west the tour pack cracked side to side. I noticed my wife seemed to be on a rocking chair and pulled over to find the aforementioned crack.
The only parts not changed was the 4 point quick connect for the swapping out of the pack to back rest, it was HD
stopped at Ace hardware, bought some nuts, bolts, flat metal brackets to fix the tour pack and Ace lent me their drill to complete the fix.
Kept all Harley replaced hardware and disposed of the after market tour pack. Good riddance and expensive ish lesson learned.
