Default Route Planning SW for CVO Infotainment import

My Zumo 550 with Mapsource has spoiled me. Anyone have any advice on a planning utility like Mapsource? The HD Ride Planner is really hard to use. Thanks in advance.

I use Garmin Basecamp all the time, and always works great.

The only thing is it's a pretty steep learning curve at first, but once you get it, it's very useful, powerful, and convenient.

I've used Basecamp and Tyre Travel. I really like Tyre!

I've had great success using Tyre but will try that other site for a comparison. It take s time to plan out your route. You have to make sure you set waypoints at the turns you want to make so that the gps doesn't try to take you on the wrong route. More points equals correct path.

I learned about this European based software on this forum and have been using it extensively.
It's very easy to use and has worked flawlessly for me. Certainly much easier than HD Ride Planner.

Base camp is a really powerful tool but it is a PITA to learn. HD ride planner is pretty easy but it f's up a lot on the export. Tyre is pretty decent and that is what I use for the final export.

Keep in mind that the boom system takes the points and re-calculates the routes based on your settings in the unit so always review your routes once they are imported into the unit.

To be fair, all GPS units work that way.

When you import a "route", all you are really doing is sending the starting point, ending point, and any way-points into the unit.
These are just latitude/longitude points on a map.

Then the GPS will use its own internal algorithms to calculate the route based on its internal setting (shortest, fastest, avoidances, etc)
