2014 FLHTK (wethead)... after the engine is hot, I get quite a bit of engine ping on medium to hard acceleration.
I have over 20K on the bike... just had an ECM update that was supposed to help with this, but it's done this for quite some time (like since 10K miles). I always run 91+ octane.
This doesn't happen when I lug the engine, or when the engine is relatively cool (i.e. the first 15-20 minutes of operation). Hot engine 2500 - 4000 rpm.
The engine is running to lean and to hot. I just added a Ultra Cool to my motor and it helped a lot. I also run Lucas top end lubricant that really quiets things down. Try adding some octane booster also. I had the problem myself with my old Dyna, came to find out I had an intake leak which caused it to run to lean. Good luck.
Stock 15 RGS in very hot riding conditions i've NEVER had engine ping or dieseling at any speed. That cant be said on my old Sportster lol. The 103HO in 15s require you run 93 octane or better. Not sure about wet heads.

Any ideas?
I wanted to keep my 2015 Ultra in stock config. But I have this same pinging that you have at medium to hard acceleration. I'm interested in finding out what everyone suggests.
I have gone through this with my 09. Several dealer visits to no avail. Took it to my Indy and Chad (now of Wide open cycles) was working there. He tuned my bike. picked up quite a bit of mid range and the bike never pinged again. So my advice is take it to a really good dyno guy and be done chasing it.
The auto tunes adjust VE's and AFR's but do not address timing which IMO is the main culprit with detonation. There are tables that adjust the spark timing based on engine temps. The only way to get them right you almost have to use a dyno. Just my 2 cents.
Also interested in response .Have been told it is the butterfly rattle
in the EFI. Have been suggested to start removing add on"s and put back to stock. Start with slip ons and work to head pipe. Have re adjusted throttle response with FP3 and made more aggressive and seems to have helped a little. Interested in what others have found . I have not removed pipes .
Fuel Moto 2-1-2 super jackpot and Rinehart 4" . Bike runs very good except for normal lifter 2500 rpm rattle and hard acceleration ping. 10,000 miles.
Bottom line is lose the cat, better breather and find a good tuner in your area and buy a Power Vision licences and get it tuned on the dyno. You will be happy you did.
