Default Problems when shifting down quickly to a stop

Hey guys,
I have my 2017 Road King Special for a few months and this has happened 2~3 times.
When i came to a stop from high speed, I pulled in the clutch, tried to shift down multiple times quickly to the first gear. The shifter "slipped" and did not go down to the next lower gear. It might stay in 3rd or 4th gear.

What could be the problem and how can i make it to the first gear before taking off again from a stop?

Thanks!

I find you still have to match engine speed to gear box speed........can't be doing 60MPH and downshifting to 1st.....
Downshift according to vehicle speed is best........don't try to get to first before it's due.

There is no problem, its common with the scenario you describe. Once you do stop, let the clutch out slightly then try downshifting again. Try to stay in the friction zone when coming to a stop to prevent this (down shift through each gear and let the clutch out while braking to allow the engine to also slow you down)

My 2014 did this all the time.I had to make sure that I downshifted down to 1st gear before stopping.Fast stops in higher gear resulted in having to upshift and then downshift, after stopping.Otherwise,You would continually push the lever and nothing would happen.Amazing ,how You can take off in sixth gear.Lotsa torque there.lol

I understand your point but sometimes you have no time. For example, right after I passed the apex of a curve, I saw the red light in front of me.
I will have to straight up the bike, apply the brakes gradually, pulled in the clutch, kept downshifting to the first gear. All the these moves would happen at the same time.

I will give this a try next time.

"down shift through each gear and let the clutch out while braking "
My understanding - while braking, pull in the clutch to stay in friction zone, then keep downshifting. This sounds like clutchless downshifting. Will this harm the gear box?

"How You can take off in sixth gear"
This did not happen on sixth gear. Usually it stuck in 4th gear. To take off, i had to stay in friction zone then downshifted. The engine made some weird noise and was lugging badly for sure. lol.

Sometimes you have to multi-task when coming to a stop like you describe.

"let the clutch out slightly then try downshifting again."
- this seemed to do the trick
