Default Road Glide LED headlamps not very good?

I have been unfortunately surprised in a negative way as to how well/far I can see with my 16 RGU at night. The low beams just don't put much light in front of me. Feel like I can only see about 20 feet in front of me.

I thought they were pointed down too far. I had the 5k service done yesterday and told them I thought they weren't adjusted or aimed correctly from the factory. When I picked it up they said the headlamps are adjusted correctly.

Anyone else have complaints on their RG/RGU? I was pretty excited about the bike coming with two LED headlights stock so I wouldn't have to spend extra $$ on that but am disappointed.

I guess the only thing left for me to do is to measure and check adjustment myself despite what the dealer/factory is saying.

My RGS came used from the dealer with the headlights pointed low. Just adjust them yourself. I did and they are great now

Mine seem fine. I had HIDs on my 06RG and comparing the two, they are pretty much equal. As far as comparing them to regular headlights, its like comparing to parking lamps.

They always say that. Adjust them yourself; it's pretty straightforward. Once you do, they're bright as heck!

Yeah I guess I'll adjust myself. Not a huge deal but I was going to let the dealer get it right beause they have a fancy setup for them to do it in.

I had to adjust mine to make them right. I did the 25' to the wall method, and now they're perfect.

Same as above, take matters into your own hands and adjust them yourself. You’ll quickly realize how bright these lights are at night.

Thanks for the thread. I too feel like they're pointed too low. Now to figure out how to make those adjustments.

Here’s the pic from the owner’s manual showing the location of the adjuster. You can use a 9mm socket, a 6mm Allen or a T15 Torx. (Vertical adjustment only on the RG)

It will take a lot of turns to see the change. It is a very fine adjustment.

Wow! I can see! I think I'm in love with my bike again.

One of the reasons I bought an HD was because I loved the daymaker headlights on my wife's trike. But for the last 2 years I've been riding my RGU thinking it was just as poorly lit as my old Yamaha.

However, 10 minutes with a 9mm ratchet and a little help from my wife, and it's every bit as bright as her Tri Glide. When we started, at 25 feet, the center of the high beam's bright spot was almost to the ground.

Since the OP had the same issue, I'm wondering if this is an assembly flaw or a failure on the dealer's part?

Incidentally, when I got home, the pipes were hot and she was in shorts, so I sat on the bike to hold it level and I had her do the ratcheting. So not only does she ride her own bike, but now I can honestly say she works on them too!
