I know you guys have probably covered this before - just wanted to ask.
I have a 2014 Ultra Limited. Original battery and all is well - but I think I will get a new battery next riding season. Battery still starts the bike - but, I was wondering is you can jump the battery from the tenders.
Bike has a tender - and, I have a set of alligator clips that also came with my tender. I cut those - and reversed the wires so I could have positive to positive and neg to neg. Just looking at the wires, it appeared that this is what I needed to do.
So, if I am correct, then if I have to hoop up a jump start to the bike, will these wires be sufficient.
Wish I could go to the battery - but, as I understand, getting to the battery looks like a lot of work.
I've read on these forums several times that jumping may cause issues with the stator and voltage regulator. Plus, the tender wires are not a heavy enough gauge wire to be using as a jumper.
You can hook two bikes with a jumper between your tender plugs and allow it to charge a bit and start a bike. Done it a few times. You can also use a charger on low amp setting. The key is to allow it to charge the dead one up.
A weak battery can damage you charging system.
Thanks guys - I wasn't sure. I have a bike/car jumper - but, as I said, it is difficult to get to the battery on these bikes.
I am open to other suggestions. Have considered the charger that goes to the cig lighter.
I kept the battery in my 04 for 7 years - never had a problem. Went to a 2011 - but only had that bike for 3 years - then got the 2014. Still no problems. I am just playing "what if"/ Probably why I will invest in a new battery for the new riding season.
I do keep my battery on a tender if not riding over a week or so.

We've used a Lithium jump pack before via the tender port. Not to really "jump" the bike as that requires a high current draw, but to do a quick charge. Plugged it in for 15 minutes then unplugged it and that was enough to crank the bike over.
