Default IPad-Boom Question

I'm a confirmed lifelong Android user...until recently! My brother gave me an IPad, I'd like to take it with me when I go on trips (smaller and more convenient then my laptop) to load in routes, etc. I see it has no USB port, is there a way to hook up the IPad directly to the boom system (through the USB wire on the boom) and load routes into the system? TIA

I suppose you can hook up an iPad to the Boom just like I connect my iPhone. The problem is where are you going to put the iPad since it won't fit in the space provided? You can also use the iPad for navigation, just like an iPhone, but I'm not aware of any way that you can use an iPad (or iPhone) to put routes on the Boom. The only way I know of to transfer routes to the Boom system is via USB.

Would be interesting to see if you could get this to work. Here is what I see the issue being.

Normally to load a route (.gpx file), I would have that file on a USB memory stick and it be on the base (route) not in any folders. You can get a file browser for an IPad or IPhone, so you can see files on them, however not sure the BoomBox is going to be able to browse these devices.

I believe so. Doesn't your recharger cable have the miniplug [on the Ipad side] and a USB on the wall jack side?

The Lightning to usb cable used to charge via an AC adapter will also pass data when hooked to a PC (can sync itunes) so it should communicate. What you do from there I have no idea

I don't plan on carrying the IPad around, I just wanted to use it to transfer files (mostly routes) from the Pad to the Boom, just like I would use a Flash Drive.

Yes, I see what you're saying, the Boom finding the file on the IPad might be a problem. Easy with the Flash Drive, maybe not so much so with an IPad...

Yes it does, physically it will connect, just not sure I can transfer files from the IPad to the Boom...

My thoughts were to load HD Ride Planner into the IPad, create and save the route in the Pad and then transfer it from the Pad into the Boom, thereby bypassing the USB step. Seems as Mr. Ragan said getting the Boom to find that file might be the issue. When I get to the "Import" step I'm not sure if the Boom will allow me to scan the IPad files and search for the route. I'm gonna give it a try next week and I'll report back, thanks to all.

If you have an iPad and want to transfer files to a USB then you can in fact do that. All you need is a lightening to USB adapter which lets you connect a USB thumb drive to your iPad, iPhone or iPod.
