I’ve been curious about plasti-dip, and went to buy a can when I was at Wally World. Well, they didn’t have it, but had rustoluim peal coat, so I bought a can. I bought the “gloss black” but it looks matte.
I had a heck of a time with the first go around. It was very textured at the bottom of the dash. I found on line that this could be fixed with mineral spirits, then recoated. That worke pretty well.
It’s OK, but I will most likely get a gloss black one.
Steelerdude, have it powder coated for way cheaper than buying a new gloss black dash. I have all my parts, from a couple of bikes, done by Absolute Powder Coating in St. Marys. They have a wet bike black color that matches HDs gloss very well. You can just mail your dash and theyll mail it back, or you can ride up and see their shop and check out the colors (you can see directly into the shop and check the work theyre actually doing). Not a bad time of year to head that way and check out the Elk either.
Ive had very good luck with their work. Ask for Audi when you call, she is always very pleasant to deal with and theyre HD riders as well so they know how particular we can be lol.
Heres a shot showing my dash, another pic showing the fork legs and cowbells they did.

Just another note, if you do send it for powder coat, be sure to take off all the little add on parts like the dash insert, the aluminum tabs that hold the wires underneath, any rubber seals or plugs, etc.

Personally, I REALLY like the look of the contrast between gloss & matte finishes. But that's just me.
