KST Renegade install advice 2018 FLTRU
Today I swapped out my crappy stock RGU bars for some nice 12" Renegade bars from KST. Pulling the wires was a bitch! I got it figured out tho and am happy with the results except for 2 issues:
1). The grips do not seem to be on all the way, I had to pull left grip out a little to fit the clutch assembly, and the TBW grip on the right has @1/8" in and out play. I've adjusted this play out on other bikes I've had because it drives me nuts but these bars don't have enough room on the handle end.
2). In the most comfortable position my mirrors hit my windshield at full lock (15" Freedom shield, which I like a lot). Pulled bars back and it helped. Tried mirrors under but I'm not sold on that. I had mirror extenders on the old bars which definitely will not fit.
So my questions for anyone who has installed these are:
1). Do you have to clearance inside of clutch and brake master housings where they meet with the bars at the swedge weld? Any way to space my TBW to take out the play?
2). Mirror options? I'm broad shouldered so I like my mirrors out there a bit.
Thanks, John
PS. I posted this on the Road Glide forum but I haven't figured out how to post pics. I thought it might be helpful to someone to see a comparison between stock RGU and 12" KST bars.

After speaking with several manufacturers, they all recommend just placing the TBW sensor slightly inserted into the bar end (not fully pushed in).
Then put the grip and controls on and push the whole assembly in until it contacts the weld/stop - then tighten the clamp.
I've run it this way for years. No issues. Maybe the same will be true with your situation...
1. I tried to pull the TBW out a bit but it pushed right back in. I tried taping it out a bit but it pretty much pushed back in too. I tried an O ring to space it out between the end of the bar and the TBW but that interfered with the grip.
So what I ended up doing is I found a piece of vacuum hose that fit around the nipple at the end of the TBW (might be a plug for the heated grips?) and fit and cut a couple times to get the length right to take out the slop. Added some dielectric grease and gave it some room to slide around a bit. Very much improved!
2. I moved the bars back just enough to clear the windshield at full lock. Simple as that and still comfortable.
Thanks for the input guys. Here is the finished project.
