Yaffe 10" Monkey Bar Install - Experience & Observations
I had initially planned to install them myself given some good info posted here on the forum by Cosmic. But was not looking forward to the anticipated 8+ hours of effort. When my dealer offered the installation for a ridiculously low price I jumped at it. In hindsight, I would've done the install myself given what I've learned along the way.
I opted to keep the stock rubber bushings - I suffer from Raynaud's disease and had concerns regarding introducing additional vibration into the bars with stiffer bushings. Turned-out to be the right choice for me - no issues. I did opt for the Yaffe locking handlebar clamp. I understand the nylon bushings are recommended for taller bars.
Initial install had the bars relatively far forward. I installed a set of Pingel Fairing Mirror Drop Brackets (expensive, I know). Nice fit & finish and they do the job. I can use the mirrors looking below my arms. For the first week or so I felt as if the bars were a bit too far forward for my reach. Dealer offered to adjust them for free - I was just looking for an inch or so of relief.
Well, I get the bike back and the bars are now adjusted as far back as possible - they feel damn-near stock height and my hands are squarely in front of my fancy-new drop-bracket mirrors. Dealer is generally fantastic to me so I decided to handle the re-adjustment on my own. Time to take matters into my own hands. I find this video which I hadn't seen before. Makes it appear all too easy to adjust (and install) bars on these bikes:
Well, with my first adjustment I got the bars where I thought I wanted them - just a few inches off the fairing. I didn't like the angle, nor did they feel right - and now I could only use about 1/2 of the mirror. With my next adjustment I rolled them forward a bit more (close to where the dealer had them originally). Better, but not perfect yet. And now I'm looking at all the other nuances relative to the overall fit - overall balance, cable alignment, master cylinder angles, control-switch alignments, measurements every which-way. A bit of my OCD coming into play.
Third time in there I got it all right where I want it - the bars are actually as far forward as possible now and I've got about 85~90% visibility in the mirrors.
Want it done right, do it yourself. Love these bars.

I'm laughing as I went through all the same. Yeah it takes a little to get everything adjusted just right for you, but it is worth it.
You can crack the screws on the brake and clutch lines a very little bit without causing any issues and move those cable angles as needed. Just a very little and they will not even leak until you get them adjusted and tightened back.
Enjoy!
Somewhere around adjustment two or three, I noticed the fairing leaning mildly crooked, based upon the points of the bars peeking up above the top rim. Made sure to address that too on the final adjustment.
I am truly content and at peace now.
