After attempting to steal another thread I will open a new one. The left allen bolt on my V&H hanger bracket was sheared off and replaced with a helicoil at Arrowhead HD last May. I've had vibration issuses as well as those bracket bolts loosening
Left bolt is the one that is missing
. I spoken with V&H people and they got me squared away with the configuration of the crossover pipe to this exhaust bracket. The helicoil has failed and currently I have one allen bolt (1/4 x 20 x 11/16) holding the right side of bracket on. Now to my question, while either refitting another helicoil or drilling out and tapping the damaged hole in the tranny case, Will metal shavings enter the tranny case from above while prepping hole? How would you get the "tang" from the helicoil out without having it drop into tranny case. And most of all does that area actually sit above an open fluid oil pan?
No way does that enter the tranny fluid area. DONT go deeper if you have to go wider. You can get that coil out if you try, hook, needle nose, easy out, drill bit, all kinds of ways to muscle it out. Maybe the threads are still good try another coil.......you can stack coils also. Clean the hole out with break cleaner and dry it with air. If all is good use some locktite on it or even a dab of JB weld (DAB not fill the the hole) If all that dont work retap next size up dont go deeper that the original bolts.

Thank you JoeFLHX,
I got the helicoil out but needed to know that drilling and tapping will not enter tranny fluid area...
