Last month I purchased a 2016 Ultra Limited with 1041 miles. Quite the upgrade from my 08 FLHR! The original owner had removed the original HD windshield and replaced it with a LRS (Long Ride Shields) 11" high and clear. Granted, the shield does very well and I'm not being beat up by the wind by any means. But I just can't stand the way it looks: extra wide, clear, and reminds me of something ole fashion looking and not modern. Sorry.
Majority of my FLH touring model friends use the Klock Werks FLARE windshields. This windshield has better appeal to me, smoked, and I see them more than any other windshield on HD touring models when I'm out and about. Just asking your thoughts (and I'll get opinions here for sure). I'm 6'2" tall and guessing either the 8.5", 10.5" or 11.5" TALL models. Thx!
Pick any brand you, and you will find a lot of people who swear it is the best.
At the same time you will hear from others saying it just didn't work for them.
The point is, there is a reason there are so many choices out there.
Now with that said, you mention you don't like your current LRS shield. Well, they make more than one model.
Take a look at their website and you will see other options.
I really like the LRS shield I am using
LRS Ultra Recurve, 9" - Medium Tint
Go with ANY brand medium tint, recurve windshield. Get one that you can see over the top. The companies that sell windshields can tell you which shield will fit you, every body is different even if they are the same height.
i had a smoked shield once, after a long a scary ride home after dark in a downpour it came off. yes i always looked over it until that night couldnt see that far in front of the bike and certainly couldnt see through it.
Freedom shields is another good option. Very good customer service. You can also test ride the windshield as long as you do not remove the film, the windshield can be returned. I have tried several and prefer Freedom Shields due to the quality and customer service. Lots of options which makes the decision tough. Good luck on your choice.
Plenty of thread and opinions on the best. I've tried HD, LRS, Klock Werks, and Freedom. All seem to have good quality but only the 16" Freedom moved the air above my helmet to address the buffeting of the helmet. FYI, I'm 6'2" and riding a 2015 FLHTK, have the front fangs, the "dog dish" on the triple tree, and the "wings" between the fairing and the frame. Nothing removed the buffeting on the top of my head until the 16" Freedom shield. I have solved the buffeting but I have to look THRU the windshield and it looks huge on the front. For me right now it's a trade off on looks vs riding comfort, especially for my passenger who has multiple plates in her neck.
PM me if you're interested in a 11.5" Clear Klock Werks (MSRP $180) with about 3,000 miles on it. Now that the Freedom shield is solving my issue I may be moving the KW unit to the sale stock.
I use a Dark Tint 8 when the bike is stripped down and a light tint wide 10 for long trips. Like mentioned, any aftermarket recurve brand is a good one. For me it was about finding the right combination for a full face that I use on rides longer than 50 miles.
