I'm looking for a better sound from my 2014 Ultra Ltd (103 Twin cooled)... Something low and throaty, but not too loud when cruising. From what I've read, these slip ons seem to meet the criteria. I'm being told that I can just replace the stock mufflers with these, no fuelpak needed unless I do header pipes and/or intake.
Looking for opinions from those that have used these on the 103.
Sorry about not using them on a 103 but I am running them on a M8. They are as you describe. Not really loud but deep and punchy. The 4" pipes have more volume while the 4 1/2 generally are not quite as loud and are often deeper. I think of them as a cheaper version of the monster rounds that I had on my TC. I am not really a V&H fan for all their stuff but their mufflers are pretty decent for the most part.
I have monster rounds on my 14 Limited. I love the sound level db and the tone. Deep and rumbly... not overly loud and rappy.
i also installed an FP3 at the same time. So I cannot advise on running new mufflers with or without a tuner. There is plenty of discussion on these forms regarding that though.
i have em on my 2014 SGS 103 stage 2 , absolutely love em get a lot of compliments on sound , its the same baffle as slash cuts . im just not a slash look fan is all you will like em im sure
Just ordered the Eliminator 400's today for my M8. V&H has a 20% off sale until July 8th. I save $180 just on slip-ons and intake. Depending on the site you use, you can get free shipping and no tax (J&P cycles). The tuner I'll get from HD (Screamin Eagle) along with a dyno tune.
I'll likely wait until I'm set for a dyno tune to install them. The dealership told me I'd be fine to drive around without a tune, it just wouldn't be at peak performance and could have some deceleration popping. He said with chrome pipes, you could get some blueing.
If you are getting the he tuner it has a stage one preloaded map in there that you can download to the bike without a dyno. Mine runs fine like that. I will use a powervision with a new header when my warranty is up and dyno it then.
Thanks Todd, I may start with that initially until I get headers. I've never been fond of canned tunes but most guys are happy with the stage 1 canned tunes. I guess there's not much to change or adjust other than air/fuel. This M8 seems pretty restricted in stock form.
i agree with Todd also - i have a VH FP3 on mine - for my needs and set up - it works awesome , to each their own , but most dealers are pumping a canned tune in , printing us a pretty coloured run sheet and calling it a Dyno tune
