I went from white to high-viz yellow. I also wear a high-viz jacket.
Short story; heading south from Idaho to southern California for this year's Run For The Wall, as usual, we hit rain. Six of us in pretty good rain, passing trucks in the spray. I'm running 2nd, wingman position. We stop for gas, and the rest of the guys told me:
"You need to stay up front. We can't see anybody in front of us except you and your helmet and jacket. We're all just following you."
'nuff said.
i had a guy come up to me at a gas stop and tell me he could see me in traffic almost a mile away because the helmet stuck out. The thing with hivis yellow at least is that it is actually kinda painful to look at and it makes the brain really notice it. Im in the market for an aria xd4 and it will also be in hivis yellow.
I have several identical black half helmets. One has fallen off the bike a few times and is pretty beat up and I was just thinking the other day about doing a white rattlecan job on it to see how much cooler it might be. This summer has been brutal here.
I've had white; I have black. I suppose the white was more visible. I assure you the white was cooler. I enhance the night visibility of my black helmet [and a Harley orange 3/4] with the following: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hyper-Refle...19.m1438.l2649
I buy and wear the helmets I like. Haven't worn a solid color in decades. Multi-colored with various graphic themes. Just buy and wear what you like. If they're gonna run over your ****, the color of your helmet ain't gonna matter one lick.
If they don't see your headlights I doubt they'll see a white helmet. Correct lane positioning is more important than the color of your helmet. One other thing I do is weave from one side of the lane to the other when I see a car with a left turn signal approaching or a car waiting at a side street.
