In the summer I wear white helmet. The side by side test with a white helmet next to a dark helmet in the sun sold me. As far a visibility, the idiots on the road here are just that, idiots.
I've added reflective stripping to my white helmet and I wear a bright orange air jacket with refective HD logo on the back, front, and arms. I look like a road cone riding a motorcycle.

I can tell you with total certainty white is cooler. The wife wears a black helmet, me a white usually in the summer (when I wear one). Put them on the seat here in sunny South Carolina and wait an hour. Then touch both. HUGE difference in heat.
Just discovered that Bell has stopped making their Pit Boss half helmet in white (pearl white) as of last year. Very disappointing for me since I like the helmet and like white for reflecting heat and greater visibility. Sad news!
Your lighting is far more important than helmet color choice. I wear a black helmet when i wear one but my dual LEDs and aftermarket LED turns an brakes are more critical than a silly white helmet. Making yourself appear as big as possible which in effect is created by BRIGHT lighting does just that. A quality Black Matte helmet does not transfer heat to your head any more than a white one does. I own both so that's my qualification. Having a quality UV protective smoked visor is more important than helmet color. I'm not saying NEON colors are a safety improvement because they are but your lighting is 1000 times more important to being seen than a simple helmet color choice.

Yes lighting is very important. Everything we can do is important for safety.
