Default Handlebar Install Issues

So... Buttoned up another handlebar install on a new to me Ultra last night. Not an enjoyable experience but oh well. The install included a set of 12” KST Mayhem bars. Finished everything. Turned the ignition to make a check of both right and left hand controls. Everything seemed to be in good working order so I finished up the fairing and called it done.

Woke up this morning for a ride to the gym. Started right up, backed it out of the garage and down the drive way, shifted into first and BOOM no throttle. WTF... for 30 seconds I considered throwing the bike to the ground and calling the junk man to come pick it up. Obviously, I came back to a rational state of mind rather quickly and inched the bike back into the garage.

Now, I have no idea where to start. I am 98% certain that my re-wiring of the TBW was correct. I am at a loss and the thought of taking the internal wiring back out makes me cringe.

Let me know your thoughts.

Yeah what he said. Hopefully something simple. I screwed up heated grips once and had to pull everything off and do it again. No fun but I got plenty of experience.

Good luck

I just went through this with the TBW....i was having ecm codes an searches came back the throttle sensor....since I had to pull it I went ahead an ordered bars and did it all at once. put it back together an still got a code....I removed the "green connector" inside the bars that goes to the throttle sensor that the grip turns an wired the six wires directly together an so far that has cleared it.

Man... it is no fun. I fixed it last night. I pulled the main connection apart and looked at the female side of the connection. I did not seat the individual wires deep enough so there was no contact between wires when plugged in. I reworked the wires and everything seems to be in working order.

Hope it's fixed! I put 1.25" bars on an still need to do some trimming in spots for the fairing to clear the bars. I'm just leaving it as is for now, I'll get the gaps fixed later.

I having new bars installed at the dealer. I'd would rather bite the bullet and pay then mess with it. I'm sure I could do it, but it seems that there are daily posts on here about "installed new bars, now have a problem." Hats off to those who have done it with no issues.

HB....I was having problems BEFORE the bar change...I figured since I had to remove the throttle grip sensor I'd do it all at once. I installed poly bushings while I was at it. Bars an bushings were $250, sensor was $100 so I couldn't shell $400 for labor..wish I could have it's a b!tc# of a job IMO.

Yeah, I didn't want to mess with any issues on this either.
I just don't have the patience for electrical issues.

So, I paid the dealer to do my bar install this week.

12" LA Chopper Bagger Bar
Bars $284.95
Twist Grip Sensor Kit: $79.95
Poly riser bushing: $49.95
Switch wire extension kit: $35.60
Terminal Socket: $6.00
Terminal PIN: $4.00
Labor: 4 hrs @ $80 = $320.00

Total: $780.45

Paying that $320 for this job didn't bother me one bit. I pretty much guarantee I would have messed something up and had to take it apart more than once. LOL

Well I sure wish I would have made the decision to have someone install. I have done bars previously on a street glide and on a 15’ RG so I thought I would be okay. Guess not. I rode the bike this morning for the first time and I am throwing all kinds of codes.

P-1353 - Front Cylinder No Combustion
P-1510 EFI Limited Performance mode
P-2122 TGS1 Low/Open
P-2138 TGS Correlation Error (Twist Grip Sensor)
B2206 - Run/Stay Switch Input Open/ Shorted High

Cruise Control Light is working but will not engage. Looks like I will get to pay the labor I would have paid on the front end either way.
