Adding Security
the smart security system is NOT a dealer install if you have the basic security system. i put one in on my ‘14 ultra classic. took all of 10 minutes.

The smart siren is not a dealer install but the security system itself with the fobs definitely is.
You know the more I read the less I understand what the smart security option offers that my bike doesn't already have with the factory security. Without the fob being nearby or have had entered the security code my ignition will not work and if it is moved, lights flash. Thinking, I will just get the smart siren 2.
You got it lol if your bike already has the security system that kills the ignition (you have the fobs and the lights flash when you turn it off) you got the security system and there’s nothing else to add or do... except if you want to add the audible alarm (siren) and/or a pager (these two things are stupid easy to add yourself in a few minutes)... that’s all there is to the security system. Not all models automatically come with the security system, like yours did, but it can be added later... not much more to it, it just gets confusing sometimes to understand what some people currently have on thier bike and what it is they are wanting to add.

So if all you want is to add noise, then you can do that for about $10. Look through the forums and you will find several threads indicating that there is already a connector under the fork shroud that receives power when the alarm is triggered. Just connect a radio shack or amazon bought siren to that connector...and you have a noisy alarm for about $10.
However...if you also want the pager that pages you when your alarm goes off, then you need to spend the money on the HD smart siren 2 in order to get the transmitter. And then you also need to buy the pager separately. And note...this is not a true "pager" that uses the cell phone system in order to page you anywhere. It's just a radio transmitter/receiver pair that the HD website says is only good for up to 1/2 mile. So it may not work in places like parking garages. I'm not saying it's worthless. I'm just saying you want to know exactly what you're getting.
I had the alarm added to my 16 Ultra Classic when I bought it. I added a radio shack siren later with info from these forums.
That all makes sense. I am basically wanting to be able to make noise and monitor it when I am on the road from my hotel room.
bought it all today. Pretty easy install. Mine had a shelf to hold the alarm. Thinking older models might not have that based on instructions.
don't know about the OP but I am appreciating the knowledge gained in this thread.

If you have the basic security which flashes the lights, disables the ignition, etc...then the question becomes...what are you trying to accomplish by adding the smart siren 2? The smart siren 2 does 2 things. First, it is an audible siren (makes noise). Second, it includes the transmitter to send a signal to one of the HD pagers. The transmitter is what makes the smart siren 2 so expensive, although the pager is not included and has to be purchased separately.
