Default 25000 mile service on rushmore

Hey all, need a thoughts... I am coming up on 25000 and service is calling for a neck adjust as well as regular service... Dealers is looking at $450 I have done all my own services in the past.. Is it worth the cash or continue doing my own.
I have a 2015 Limited... pretty much all highway miles

My vote is to always have it done by the person you trust most. And anyway, I assume you own the service manual? Neck bearing adjustment is really pretty straightforward. You won't have any problems.

I thought Rushmore neck bearings were R&R at 25,000. Repack and inspect.

I had the dealer do my 25000 service. Same price as you were quoted and it feels like new. It was worth it to me.

Adjusting the steering head bearings is not a big deal, however, repacking them is a pain in the a$$. My 2014 failed the swing test at 30,000 miles and when I disassembled to inspect and lubricate, bearing was practically dry.

I think I will use my Tech for that part of the 25000 service just in case a new bearing needed , I can sometimes cost myself more money

To me, it looks like lubrication of the steering head bearings is a beast. For me, I know it's going to be an all-day event.

For us with a fork-mounted fairing, we'll have to:
  1. remove the entire fairing (about 10 sub-steps to do this: ignition switch, dash panel, outer fairing, electrical connections, inner fairing, etc.)
  2. remove the handlebar and upper fork assembly
  3. remove the upper stem (which is what the upper bearing is attached to)
  4. raise bike until lower stem is out far enough to clean old grease out
  5. clean the old grease off bearings and remove old grease from cups
  6. add new grease (no quantity specified)
  7. Lower the bike to re-seat lower bearing
  8. Grease threads of stem
  9. install upper stem and tighten
  10. lower vehicle until forks begin to compress
  11. Loosen upper stem nut 90 degrees, tighten
  12. Install the handlebar and upper fork assembly
  13. Install the entire fairing (about 10 sub-steps to do this: ignition switch, dash panel, outer fairing, electrical connections, inner fairing, etc.)
  14. Perform swing test (which is a whole 'nother procedure...)
WHY DID THEY REMOVE THE GREASE ZERK??? Rather, why did they change the type of bearing so that you can't use a zerk?

I think I might take mine in to get done... Then again, why pay $500 just for convenience?
