Boom 6.5 and ride planner questions
https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMv...QNDfrB53H3G_fA
I have been playing around with a Verbatim Store-N-Go USB/Lightning Drive along with the Store-n-Go I OS app to get the routes from the HD Ride Planner to the Boom Box using Safari on my iPad. When you tap the download button you are prompted to open the file in Store-n-Go which will copy the gpx file to the thumb drive when it is connected. It seems to work well with the iPad but the iPhone just tells you to use the Harley Ride Planner app, which is not available for use for anyone outside of the USA. It would probably be easier if you can use the Ride Planner app.

I did try to play with just entering an address onto the nav, and was kinda surprised how slow of a process that it, seems to pause a second or 2 before it will let you type the next letter. Maybe I’m doing something wrong.
Another Question, can I set up a qwerty keyboard, or is alphabetical the only option. I went into the keyboard setting, and didnt see an option to change it.

I will have my trusty IPhone as a back up just in case things don’t work as planned.
Going to do some googling tonight to find out how to stop, or end a route, so the Nave isn’t always calculating. I wouldnt immangine that its too hard to do, but it just wasn’t obvious.
To stop or end a route. Look at your screen (map) - there are three litle lines (on top of each other). Just press that and you will see the option to stop.
The other option - and this is what I use. Just press the voice activation control on your left hand side (front of turn signal) - and say, Cancel Route. This works like a charm.
Have a safe trip
I may have to try one of the other ride planning apps. The one I did on HD’s loaded fine, but it was really Hickey using it. It wanted to run a round trip to each of my waypoints. I got on the bike after hitting the first, and found out rather quickly that it started over again, taking me back home. I guess you i have to go in, pull each leg of the trip after the waypoint and re start it from the next leg of the trip.
Ended up just using google maps to my destination. Then I couldnt figure out how to put in a single address, I later found that you basically do it backwards from what I’m used to. State first, then city . . . . . Until you get to the street number. Even at that, I couldn’t locate the destination. I was a bit frustrated, and again used my phone.
But the good news is, on the way back using addresses, it all worked very well.
One thing I thought was reall cool is how at Y’s in the highway, the exit signs show up on the screen, and lights up the one you use.
All in all, its not a bad system, but there is a learning curve to use it. — Still need to figure out the ride planner part, and will check out some of the other suggested apps/programs.
The other thing I need to figure out is why my prompt volume setting doesn’t stick. I go into setting, set it so its loud enough th hear them, but as soon as you shut th bike off, it reverts to the softer volume setting. - not sure how to fix this issue.
Now to the radio part, It works almost identically to the 4.3, so I had that part down. And I do have to say that the sound from this unit is much better than the 4.3.
Next thing I want to do is program in my home address, but I think I got that part now, starting backwards will probably do the trick.
I did even have some issues with google maps too, ii took me to a route with unpaved roads. They weren’t nearly as bad as the one I was routed to in the black hills though, theses ones were at least rideable at the speed limit.
I’ll keep on playing with it until it becomes second nature, and I’m sure it will work fine once I learn the weird tips and tricks

I think most of us have some of those same issues - especially with the system trying to route you back home to start the route. When I use the address feature, I don't have that problem (only when using the rout feature)
Here is something else that I have found useful. Before starting a trip, I enter my destinations in my gmail account. So, you have the name address and phone number.
I then go to the garage and refresh my phone book.
Once refreshed, I can use either the voice commands or the handlebar controls to navigate to the phone, contacts and details. When you show the details, the address will come up. Just click OK and the system will route you to that address.
You can always delete those contacts later

Thanks for that, it's a great idea.
I ran across that by accident. Don't recall seeing anything in the Boom manual about this. I do it in my car so just wondered if the same would apply on the bike. In the car, I would take my phone and use google to say - navigate, contact and say the contact's name. Then the map would come us.
With that, I said to myself, "SELF", since the contacts are on the phone and the phone is synced to the bike, I just wonder if it works. Tried it - and yep, works perfectly.
Have you given it a try?
