Default Lifter racket

Last year I installed Hylift Johnson B2313SE lifters (not from WFOLarry) and SE adjustable pushrods with my CR 570-2. I seemed to always hear some ticking from the front lifter block - likely the exhaust. I adjusted the pushrods several times but the ticking remained and I just let it go. Recently, the ticking has turned to a bit of a rough tick or clatter. Particularly on start up. After warm up and a few minutes of riding the noise quiets down some, but sorta comes and goes in intensity. Will check pushrods tomorrow, but barring a pushrod that has loosened is this a case of maybe one bad lifter? I've checked with an inexpensive mechanic-type stethoscope and I do believe the noise is from the exhaust lifter "area." What else is likely to be the culprit?

For a relatively cheap first swing of the bat try a different oil. I've tried a LOT of different combos and by far the best when it comes to noise is Spectro 25-60 NON-SYNTHETIC oil. (By far the worst is Mobil 1 V-Twin 20-50). Many folks here have tried it with great success.

Good luck in the hunt.

maybe the lifters are loose in their bores?

Maybe the pushrod is contacting the tube at the top.

I have the same setup - been chasing the same noise from front - i am starting to think it is the lifters - i have gone to 3 full turns instead of the 2.5 as per harley on there pushrods and no diff -
S&S lifters are next

I am using Spectro 25w60, which did reduce the noise a bit. Have about 3000 on the current oil - the louder, clatter version of the noise started about 200 miles ago.

I readjusted the pushrods to, if I do remember correctly, the same 3 turns 3 flats on SE pushrods = .140.

Re-torqued the header bolts. A little give at 115 inch pounds, but probably within spec. Put rags over the exhaust and did not hear an increase in ticking.

Not sure about the lifter bore comment.

I have not ridden yet, but have started up a couple times and that initial start up clatter is no longer present. Still more noise than I would prefer, but seemingly back to the original noise. I have at least isolated to the right front cylinder area.

I searched and can not find the article , but someone posted a fix for the ticking that they were hearing . Their solution was to minimize the end play on the rocker arms . If I remember correctly they went to the tighter tolerance to fix it but they found their rocker arms before adjusting were several thousands looser than what is recommended . I have one that ticks on my 2014 street glide and I will check the rocker arms before going after the lifters .
