Question?? Couldn't find info via search so I will just ask? I understand some states have mandatory attendants to pump gas? Is this true and if so how have you handled this with your Harley? I have little trouble filling mine but can't imagine me letting some minimum wage employee do it! I am in Missouri but see Illinois may sign a new law into effect that requires attendants?? I ride Illinois some but curious about those states that have this law and hoiw it works out for the picky rider (like me)who doesn't want anyone hovering over their bike!!
Curious I Am!!????
Thanks for your thoughts!!
Never in my 40+ years of riding has anyone other than myself put fuel in my bikes. And I live in NJ where its NOT self serve..
I can confirm what is said about Oregon above. Sometimes the attendant will act like he has to run your card other times attendant is cool and I get gas in the usual way.
I minimize my stops for gas in Oregon. By gassing up right before I go into, Oregon.
We do like to ride down to nye beach stay a night or two.
Back in the day we used to have attendants. They would take the pump out of the cradle and hand it to you. I've seen some of these hose jockeys over fill and run gas all over the tank. Other times they don't fill it completely. I've never let anyone pump the gas in my bikes.
Just to clarify Oregon law, self-service gas is illegal with the exception of diesels and motorcycles and certain rural areas (yeah I know it's a weird one, but hey no sales tax here).
Now don't expect the gas pumper making minimum wage to actually know the letter of the law, but as others have said most just run your card and hand you the nozzle. It's mostly just a customer courtesy. I've never had someone attempt to fuel my bike, but they have fueled my diesel for me at times.
There is no way i would let someone else pump gas into my bike or one of my hotrods. Seen way to many cars with the paint all boogered up around the filler door from this.

I live in Northern California and go up to Oregon quite often. Almos everytime I get fuel in Oregon I give the guy my card he runs it picks up the handle and hands it to me with a paper towel. A few times I mistakenly forgot and started to pump my own the attendant came running and said he had to start it and hand it to me. I wont let any attendant pump my gas, if he wont give me he pump I go elsewhere.
