Well that makes sense. Stations burn down around here all the time.

If I'm getting gas for my car and the attendants busy, I'll just do it myself. Unless its a highway rest area with a dozen pump islands... There's too many nuts buzzing through to risk getting run the fug over.

Well the law's been around forever so it's nothing new, but I couldn't agree more about the nanny state BS.

I drove to Oregon recently and pulled in to get gas and forgot and started pumping my own into my car, man, you would have thought I had murdered someone, the dude flipped out. After he took over and after the first click he stopped, I asked he could top it off because my tank will hold about three more gallons after the first click, he handed the nozzle back and said only the owner is allowed to top off and made me do it. Anyway it's the worst system ever, one guy working and six pump islands, cars were backed up down the street in rush hour traffic, looked like the gas rationing days.

The reason they get so uptight is because the state will fine the sheet out of them if they get caught. Never heard the one about only owner being able to top off, calling BS on that one (not on you the gas pumper). Regardless I agree it is pretty idiotic, the only upside being the jobs that are created FWIW.

normally they are told NOT to top off the tank.....if you fill to top it gets fuel in evap system and it fails than check engine light.....only reason for not topping off.

I used to go to "Little Sturgis"KY back in the day when it was a big deal....and one of the gas stations near there always hired a bunch of hotties to pump gas...

I always let them...it was fun to watch...

Oregon is nanny state and the attendants pump the gas unless you are in a county of fewer than 40,000 population.

Been riding around Oregon for about 7 years now and I've never had an attendant try to fuel my bike. Usually they want to swipe the card, but a few times the attendant has just waved at me to go ahead and do it all myself.

On a side note...with the number of CC skimmers around...I NEVER use an ATM card/pin at any outdoor CC reader. There are legal protections against fraud losses with credit cards. While many banks say they will cover fraud losses for ATM cards, that is a policy, not the law.

As for topping off the tank...it's actually illegal. https://www.oregon.gov/deq/aq/progra...p-Off-Ban.aspx
But I also have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that has a fubar filler neck that constantly pops the nozzle. I'm told it's a common problem the the Grand Cherokees.

Regarding the ban on self service, I see it as a trade off between a minor nuisance and creating jobs. While I admit to occasionally getting mad at having to wait for an attendant...that seems like a small price to pay to create thousands of jobs. As noted above, a recent law change allows self service in rural areas. It's no shock that these are the same areas complaining about the lack of jobs. Besides...having an attendant do the work can be down right welcome when it's 35 degrees and raining sideways.
