Default Question about the YUASA battery I just received

I decided to replace the factory battery on my 2015 Limited with a Yuasa. I considered others, but the 500 CCA and decent price ($135) convinced me.

I ordered the battery online and received it today (shipped from a distributor in Illinois). Does anyone know how to decifer the manufacture date of the battery ? (if there is one ..... best I can find is RJ02KQ) There is no YY/MM sticker. The Yuasa web site does not provide date code info for this style of battery. I called the place I ordered it from - no help.

I'm always a little leary of ordering certain things online - having a date code would put some of that concern to rest.

I was also a little surprised that the Yuasa box (not the outer shipping box) had the typical clear tape over the cover of the box to seal it shut, but it had been opened. The battery "looks" new - no obvious signs of being a return, but the opened packaging has me a little unsure. Maybe its normal ? Or needs to be opened for some safety reason ? Periodic charging ? (I doubt it)

Since Yuasa support is closed for the day, thought I'd ask here.

dhey shipped the battery to you - they opened the box to charge it (activate it) Once you activate it, it is sealer. Since you have a 2015 Ultra, I will assume your got a sealed battery.
What is the battery model number?

Sounds like this is the normal procedure - thanks, cycle7447.

It would still be nice to decode a date, if there is one. Or maybe I should not be concerned about how long it sat in the warehouse .................. as long as it was recently activated ?

If we get some more rain to clean up the roads, I hope to install it soon.

I installed the same battery about a year ago, kept it on a tender for about 3 months before installing, great battery, significant difference in cranking than the stock HD.

Just bought Yuasa GYZ32HL from Battery Mart for my 2016 Limited, battery came fully charged at 14.7 volts, they say to check with a multimeter before installing, if it's below 14.3 volts it needs to be charged to 14.7-14.8 volts, as for the date code, only Yuasa can tell you, that's what I was told by Battery Mart.

According to Yuasa, a dry battery has a shelf life of 5 years from the date of manufacture.

I just tested mine - its at 12.83 v.

If I put it on a Tender, will it even reach the target mentioned of 14+ v ? I'm used to seeing 14v while riding, but I was thinking a Tender did not charge higher than 13v or so.

I was planning on hooking it up to the Tender for 24 hours or so, thinking I'll be in float mode almost immediately after connecting the Tender.

Is this a good plan ?

I would use a charger set to at least 10 amps for no more than an hour, or 2 amps overnight for a slow charge, 12.83 Volts is discharged, I don't thing a tender will charge it up very quick, not even in 24hrs.

A tender won’t fully charge it. If you have a trickle charger, set it to 2 amps. I only use 10 if I’m in a hurry and can keep an eye on it. Either way disconnect as soon as it’s charged. Overcharging damages the battery. My Indy put the 500 CCA Yuasa in this summer, after I needed a new stator.
