This bike is driving me crazy and because I am an electrician it is much worse. I understand the electrical system in detail but I admit people way smarter than me designed it.
History...
January 2020 I had a bad battery tender that shorted my charging system. None of my accessories worked ie heated grips, 12v plugs, passing lights, ect
May 2020 took it to Harley and they replaced the passing light switch along with the grips. Everything worked
June 2020 I replaced the bars. Cruse stopped working (new problem) check engine light is on but when I try to get the code it just blinks once without any codes. Passing lights are only on with high beams (didnt mess with control wires?) Now they stopped working again but the switch is getting power. I dont care about the lights I'm going to wire them to the headlights anyway. The cruse is what is pissing me off. I have put the bike in test mode all components turn the light green BUT still no cruse.
Assuming everything was working correctly before the bars, then something you did during the installation affected the cruise control, the passing lamps and caused the check engine light. Have you pulled the bars and checked all the wiring? Didnt you solder some wires together? Remember, we werent there, so we have no clue about how you performed the installation.
Start off by telling us the steps youre taking to pull up the codes.
I'm holding the button on top of the left hand controls for 5 sec and longer. The wires in the bars were soldered to remove the connectors because they would not go through the right angle. I have removed the bars pulled the wires and inspected them. I heat shrieked and taped them for protection before reinstalling them. All switches and buttons work as should. I have taken both outer and inner farring off to check for wire damage and connections. I also removed the tank to look for anything wrong again nothing found. I Disconnected the battery for a few hours while I was looking to attempt to reset anything with the engine light again nothing. I went into test mode for CC by holding down on cruse button while putting the bike in run. I checked both brake pedals, throttle forward, clutch, and up and down on cruse all of which turned the light green. Great care was taken during tear down and reassembly not to pinch any wires. Everything went smooth nothing forced into place during assembly no spare parts left over Haha.
I would say the wiring in the bars is the problem.
I’ve changed bars on Rushmore’s three times now and never even considered having to solder wires. You should have been able to de-pin them to pull them through and then add the connectors easily back on plus plug and play extensions if needed.
I am not an expert on electrical or Can Bus systems but for some reason I remember being told they do not like soldered wires.?
