Default Siri and Boom 6.5 GT

Devices
Sena 20S Evo, iphone 6, and Boom 6.5 GT

So, on my 2014 Ultra Classic, up until about a week ago, I could push the push to talk button on the bike, and hold it, and say, Hey Siri, send text message to blah blah blah, and it worked fine. Now I do the same thing, and Siri shows up on screen, with the typical da-ding sound, but when I talk, it acts like I am not doing anything at all, and cancels. I read one post elsewhere on the net, of the same problem, with no solution.
The helmet mike works fine, and I disconnected and re-paired the phone to the bike, no change.

I think I can still answer calls, but cannot make them, nor do I seem to be getting notified of text or email messages like I used to.

I can use voice through my bluetooth and program the Nav for destinations, that works fine, its just the bike to phone has dropped off.

Anyone else have this, and is there a solution?

I should add, I want to use the bikes Nav, believe it or not, it seems to work better than my iphone, so just using the nav screen for reference is not what I want to do.

Don’t have your system, but have had issues with an iPhone X. I have had issues with Siri multiple times, where it will pop up, and immediately disconnect. When this happens I restart my iPhone and it will work properly. Maybe this can help you too.

Will try that. I also just updated my phones ios to see if that helps. I read online that this is a sudden issue, so hopefully its something minor.

The dealer suggested having the phone and bike forget each other, then re-pair. No change.

Well no one seemed to have an answer, and I decided to start experimenting. Here's my results. I have a solution, or work around. Seems to me I should not have to do this, and did not have to for a bit, but it is what it is.

When the dealer went thru this with me, he explained I could not pair my headset with the bike. I had tried several times, to no avail. He said pair the phone to the bike, and it all worked through the radio. As I mentioned, it actually worked for a bit, at least sending a text message did, if I held the push to talk button, and told Siri to send text msg to so and so. She would ask what I wanted to say, then repeat it back and ask if ready to send. A simple yes, and off it went. Never tried to read them.

So, today, after numerous tries, I tried pairing the phone to the bike, and headset to the phone. Both paired.

So now I can send and receive msgs, if I so choose, by tapping the phone button on the headset, and going thru the Siri routine, thru the headset. Incoming msgs notice still displays on screen and if I choose, I can select them, and it (the radio) reads them to me. I can still use voice commands to the radio, for nav, etc., also.

What I cannot do, is connect the phone to USB while doing all this cause it throws a wrench into the display, and does not let you select different displays. Odd, but at least I figured out the cause. Not really sure why,, but what.

So if I want to charge the phone as I ride, I will have to use the lighter plug with an adapter. I always just listen to the radio anyway, or nothing at all.
My main text sending is usually just as I get started back home to let my wife know I am on my way. Using the headset saves me from having to dig the phone back out of my pocket, and then putting it back again before I take off. If my phone is unlocked, I can also tap the phone button on the headset, and Siri will read the message out loud as well. I wanted the bike connected, so I can get nav instructions in the helmet.
So for now its good. Hopefully it lasts.

I can simulate your setup, as I have the same components (I use a Droid as my daily driver, but have access to iPhone)

Your dealer would be right...you cannot pair a headset direct to the Boom!

...am I right in assuming you DON'T have the WHIM?

seeing as you describe BT phone to the H-D Boom, and BT the phone to the headset?

what version of the software update do you have have currently?
what version of iOS on iPhone?
and did you change either before you found out things stopped working?

you get routings problem if you pair BOTH at the same time, so in my configuration I have the headset paired to the Freewire, and that is hard wired to the Boom.
I dont have the phone BT to the Boom, to prevent that looping issue. When I'm not on my Glide, I then pair direct from phone to headset.

I think you can SIRI direct to headset, if memory serves me correctly.... that might be happening when you PTT.
But without a WHIM or Freewire it shouldn't be routing the mic via the Boom (unless your headset is picking up the instructions)

makes sense about the charging plug.... if you charge via the cig-light socket then its independent of the Boom
if you hookup via USB to the Boom, to charge, then the boom will try and get involved in the call process.

I had to stop BT to the phone (before I went Freewire) cause the calls would get answered on the speakers but no routing to the headset (without Freewire/WHIM)
and so the caller cant hear you

Bubble

First off, I DO have the whim. If not I would not be able to pair to the Boom, without an aftermarket device like freewire. Was running ios 12 something and the bike was updated prior to whim install. Everything worked as described above, until it didn't. No software changes to the bike, and none to the phone, that I knew of. I have since updated the phone, to no avail.

In my current setup, I do not get looping. Yes I do use the headset to talk to siri. I did that on my sportster, but when I first got the glide, that was why I installed the whim, so everything went through the bike. Without the whim, I would not be able to communicate to the nav system with the headset. So far there have been no routing issues setup this way. When using the Boom only, it also would not let me answer text msgs or hear them read back. Now it does, very odd system HD has.

Now, if my phone is unlocked, I can receive text msgs, verbally, and reply verbally, without ever taking my eyes off the road. Much like a phone call. The difference is now, since Boom has all my contact info, it will display who I am communicating with. When I get calls, it shows who the caller is.

As mentioned, now to talk to siri, all I need to do is tap the phone button on the headset, once, and go from there. No need to press everytime like I do with Boom. Folks have always said the Boom system is a bit backward, and I agree, but SO FAR this work around gives me the best of both worlds.

I need to test phone calls, with current setup. As you mentioned, BEFORE the whim install, I could accept a call, but it came out the speakers, but the headset and mic were not connected thru the bike, and it blocked out the mic. Very odd.

I do not think I will have that issue now. I will test soon to verify.

Ok I tested with phone calls and I can receive calls fine, thru the headset, and they display on the bike screen, who is calling. I did notice, that the headset to phone is a little slow to connect (bluetooth) this way, but they do. I can answer using bike screen button or the headset button.

So time will tell if I have overlooked something or if IT quits working too.
