Default ++ More Water Pump Issues and Engine Coolant Temp Sensor ++

Okay, I just had my (5th) Water Pump replaced on my 2014 Limited, 52k miles, my second new style one.
https://www.hdforums.com/forum/new-r...pump-part.html
Bunch of us rode to VA from NC to do the Back of The Dragon again, and my Check Engine Light and Temp Light came on when I arrived there on Saturday.
Went to Black Bear HD in Wytheville VA and they diagnosed my Water Pump being defective again.
Had two put in when I lived in Ohio, one in FL during Bike Week, one new style in NC last year, and another new style in VA this week.
They started on it Saturday and finished it up for me on Sunday. I paid my $50 deductible for my ESP and picked it up.
Started riding it back to the Hotel and got almost all the way there and both lights came on again.
Rode back to the HD Dealership and they found a bad Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
HD Part Number for that is 32700028 and is on Back Order until January 2023 and is a 2014 and 2015 part only.
Black Bear did everything in their power to get me going, and after some research found that O'Reily Auto Parts has a sensor listed for a HD V-Rod that should work.
Part number for that is TX89 Standard Brand Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor.
Black Bear was closed on Monday, called bunch of places on Tuesday but got be back in on Wednesday morning for the O'Reily part.
There were 5 dealers in the country showing the part in stock, but they called, and none had them.
Rode the Back of the Dragon on Thursday and all the way back home today and everything seemed fine.

So, if anyone needs a ECT Sensor for a 14-15, the O'Reily part works!

My Cruise Control and Shift Indicator light quit working on the way home today, so into the shop again for that next week.
They both quit at the same time, probably related.

Sorry for the long-winded post.

Thanks for the info! Damn, five pumps in 52K miles? Did they say what failed on the newest pump?

No, they didn't say but they did say it was the first "New Style" pump they saw that failed.

Kinda makes you wonder if it was the sensor all along... or had a part to play.

I agree, but they did take it for a long road test after the pump was replaced, so it's anyone's guess.

It can take a while for the conditions to be right to set a code. My money would be on a misdiagnosis. Not a big deal with the extended service plan though, I suppose.

I've got close to 36,000 miles on my 2014 Limited, with the original pump on and every time I take her for a spin I'm always expecting the red light to pop on.

Gotta question, I have the Power Vision 2 with the coolant and exhaust temps on display. If the light popped on at what temp do I give up getting the bike home vs calling for a trailer.

At a long traffic light my exhaust temp will climb from roughly 170 to 230 and the coolant from 170 to 210.

Good question, I'm not sure.
I've ridden to dealers a few times when I've had a pump failure.
