Default Ultra Windshield Trim

Hey all.

So, I got a deal on a used Freedom Shields windshield. As I'm sure most know, they're made from a thicker material than the stock shields. When installing it I noticed the three bolts sucked the plastic in as I tightened them down. Because the new shield is thicker there is nothing backing the fairing where the bolts go and it creates an indent at each bolt. I was thinking of inserting washers just behind the fairing to fill the gap left by the thicker shield. Or, just adding a trim piece in an attempt to hide the deformed area of the fairing. Or both.

Also, on the side of the windshield, at the fairing, it causes there to be a gap because of the extra thickness of the shield. I'm worried about getting caught in the rain and that being a problem.

Thoughts?

It looks worse than it is in this picture but you can see how the fairing is deformed.

See how the fairing is pulled away, leaving a gap?

Perhaps one of the stainless or chromed beauty strips on the front side of the fairing? That's what I did on mine. Spreads the forces out more evenly.

Yeah, I was thinking that might be an answer...

This is a batwing, but with the trim there is no gap as it pulled the fairing down snug.

The Freedom touring width.

Nothing you can do about the fairing gap because of the thickness of the shield, but you are overtightening the machine screws and distorting the fairing. All you need to do is put some blue locktite on threads of machine screws and then just snug them down. You don't need to over tighten them to keep shield in place.

Didn't really think about that. Sounds reasonable. I'll try that. Thanks.
