I've got one more year left on my ESP with @Jim Palmer - MotorcycleAgent.com. Two head gaskets and 4 tires later, it's saved me around $2500 so far (after ESP cost).
Also, Jim Palmer is a great insurance agent too! He's saved me quite a bit on all my insurance needs (motorcycle, auto, home, RV, landlord) and at the same time improved my coverages. Highly recommend.
OK, now you have DONE it - quoted the price for another repair. Someone wil probably say, two head gaskets nad 4 tire saved you $2500 after the ESP cost. So you are talking about $5000.
This is the thread that will not end - if goes round and round my friend
Some guy started it and quoted a price - then other guy said, no way that is the price
Now you are telling us just how much you saved
Just because this is the thread that will not end

My ESP did not cost $2500. It cost $1000. Total repairs to date are $3500. Ive documented these costs over the years in my thread.
I've never bought a esp, my personal preference is to save the money upfront, and if I have to spend it later, I spend it later vs. spending the money and hoping I never use it. I would rather not spend the money and hope I never have to spend it.
To each their own, but IMO it depends on how long you plan to keep the bike, and how many miles you ride per year. If you trade often, IMO probably not worth the investment. If you put on a lot of miles per year, then IMO if there is a factory defect or issue hopefully it reveals itself before the factory warranty runs out.
But as I agreed with above, spending $2400 for the policy vs. $2700 in repairs is a net of $300 savings. I understand that the esp is still in effect for future issues, hopefully you don't experience any going forward as down time is time lost for riding . . . and that is also a cost IMO.
But do what makes you happy, gives you peace of mind, what you are most comfortable with. Ride Safe.
my bad . i misunderstood the service writer. the $2700 was total for the 20k maintenance AND the rocker box work, so it was actually $1400 for extra work. sorry for the confusion. as to those who knocked me for not doing the work myself? well all i can say is if you have the time and skills fine do it yourself, i happen to have the skills and tools but really dont have the time or the inclination to sit in a freezing garage trying to work with frozen fingers on my bike! id rather be deer hunting!!!!
Fellows - if the guy said he saved over $2700 - well why not just be happy for him. When some of you tell me you paid $15,000 for a brand-new Ultra, I am equally as happy.
Hey, some great riding up your way. Hope to get back to the Lake George area soon. Hotel prices have really creaped up. When I was going to Americade back in the late 1980s - to early 1990s, room were dirt cheap.

Nice! There are other things to do in life. I bought a esp because I'm a mechanic by trade for 40 + years, outside of maintenance and add on upgrades like bars etc,I don't want to spend my time working on my bike. I prefer to ride instead.
The wives are rarely wrong ( just ask them ). Just kidding. I swear they have a sense about some things though that is really eerie. I'm glad you had it and have been covered. Merry Christmas!!! You got your gift early!
BTW, I have a 2015 Ultra Classic and I had those rocker box leaks too. I have seen others here that have had that same issue. I wonder if it was that 2014 and 2015 period? I haven't noticed it spoken about with the M8 Folks.
it is the 2014 year as well, mine leaked back in 2016, I tightened the rockers and all was good until this last fall, I will replace them in the spring.
