Good morning to you. Im picking up my new 2023 RGL next week and have done some searching online, but wanted to get your opinions and impressions on anything I should be aware of, for look out for, primarily regarding the engine, drivetrain and electronics. Im aware of the sumping issues in 2019 and older models but since 2020 I read HD improved the oil pump scavenging efficiency by 44% and since then, no dumping issues, at least not on stock motors. Is it true that even moving up to Stage 2 components can cause engine issues, or is that not true?
I intend to use Amsoil 20W50 V-Twin Full Syn in the engine, primary and tranny. Im interested in what yall are using and if anyone is adding moly or other additives.
Congratulations, the RGL is a great bike. I own a 2020 and I have to say its the finest touring bike I have ever owned. It is the first Harley I have ever owned that I really didn't want to change anything. I did put Screaming Eagle fork oil in. I like a little stiffer front end. I am just over 20K miles and haven't had any problems at all. I use Mobile 1 20/50 V twin simply because it's 10 bucks a quart and I change oil often. I use HD Formula Plus in the tranny and primary because it works. I also use Lucas Top End conditioner which for some reason is very controversial on this forum. It cleans the injectors and I believe it helps quiet top end rattle. I'll bet the wait is driving you crazy, I know it would to me. I had a hard time sleeping before I picked mine up.
Nice pin striping. Really wakes up the bike. To the OP, I just picked up my new UL a couple weeks ago and I love it. I did add the heel shifter and rider back rest, I feel they are a must, but it's personal preference. I would also strongly recommend getting a second electronic fob, just seems dumb to only have 1. The dealer has to program it. You should also set your PIN before you leave the dealer. I tried the procedure in the manual and it would not work. Had to have the dealer program it as well. So be prepared with a 5 digit code you can never forget before you arrive. (I am assuming that they all use a 5 digit code, but don't really know for sure).
Thanks for the insight and pics. That is a gorgeous RGL! I took a hard look at the blacked-out 2023 RGL but opted for the Vivid Black with chrome trim. I'm riding my trade-in to FL next week, Feb 27 (from Houston area) and buying the new RGL from my son who's the Sales Manager at Pensacola HD. I promised him that I'd come buy a new bike from him a year or so ago, so it's that time. He's adding the rider backrest and a set of HD Slipstream Heated grips. The originals look ok but I prefer the look of the Slipstreams with the added chrome. Will probably upgrade to the Cam Gear Kit and a high end cam block after the first 1,000 miles. I don't think I'll do much else to it until the warranty is up and then I'll go with Stage 2 components, maybe. I've got a top-notch master HD mechanic (Ronnie's V-Twin, Willis TX) just 8 miles from me who does anything and everything. I'll also get the second fob and get HD to program it, along with the necessary pin. After some research, I've decided on Amsoil 20W50 V-Twin in the engine and HD's Formula + in the primary and transmission. I think I read that's what HD puts in the Pri/Trans from the factory and reviews tell me it works great. No, this isn't an oil thread. Just info.
This is my third HD and the 47th motorcycle I've owned since '99. The last 24 years have been a very expensive and endless search for the bike that does everything. Some came close. Most did not. My new RGL won't go offroad, but I'm confident it will eat up miles of white lines in the Hill Country and out in the West Texas flats. I'll post pics once I get her home and shined. Can't wait! Can't sleep either!
Don’t put additives in the oil. And IMHO don’t put synthetic in the primary or tyranny. Use HD Formula + in the primary, and transmission specific lube like BelRay Hypoid in the tranny.
