I had the same problem yesterday. I had to go to the Harley Site, get the latest .iso and re-flash my Boombox. It also seems a bit picky on the thumb drives it likes.
The problem is, I have M23.22.27.00 and my screen is back, but I think I have the old maps.
I tried formatting another USB drive with fat32. I took the iso in the root directory and copied it over to the root of the new USB drive. That didn't seem to help.
The ISO is a complete drive image, on Windows you need a special tool to write it.
FWIW, I have never had to use any "special" software to put an ISO file on the memory stick for a head unit update, for the GT or the GTS head units to see it and do the update.
Using a Windows computer, I just quick format the stick Fat32 or ExFat, then download the update, go in the new update's folder it created in my "Downloads" folder and right click on the .iso file in it and pick copy, then open the thumbnail drive and right click and paste.
I am not aware of any requirements for the updates to have to be done on a bootable drive.
So if this doesn't fix your issue, don't be surprised... I hope it does, but I don't think thats the issue you're having.
The file name for the latest update is "swdl_boombox_GTS_DOM.iso" (it's always that name and without quotations of course) and its showing a file size of 362.2 MB (they're not always this size but close).
I used this same flash stick with that file in early February, and just sent the stick to another guy last week, along with a module to get his new to him GTS head unit to stop showing the "not compatible" error message, so he could do the software update and pre-calibration reset so it would work in his Pre-2019 bike... worked like a charm in his bike as well as mine in February, done just like I explained above.

Yeah, you have the latest software for the GTS radio, but the maps are different thing, and a different download, and not free, or even cheap, to update the maps. It is also a bit more involved updating the maps.
But are you saying you were trying to do an update on got black screened, and you just stuck the M23.22.27.00 update, which is the radio software, on a memory stick and put that in the head unit and that got rid of your black screen?
So my bike has been at the dealership since Thursday. Just called for an update. They had to escalate the issue to Harley Davidson. They have my USB drive they are analyzing and said they remoted into the head unit even. They haven't come up with a resolution yet and find the issue very interesting and unique. They said I can take the bike to ride if I want. May take a week estimated especially with holiday.
Hello,
I have a 2021 Electra CVO, yesterday I wanted to update the boombox and I have the same problem as you.
Did the dealership find a solution?
thank you
