So I am trying to go to a lighter bike, due to nerve damage and back injury. Wondering how much of a difference it will make, for around town riding, with the tourpak removed? Does it make a notable difference. I guess its like a street glide vs ultra thing. The thing is, my bike is paid for, values are dropping like rocks, yet dealers prices are still high for new and used bikes. So if it makes a big difference, I might go that route. Otherwise its back to a sportster, or even lighter.
Of course I know the removable tourpak won't make it like a sportster, but would like to feel the difference. Dealer is 40 miles away so not just a hop over to see thing.

Not only does it lighten it, but significantly changes the center of balance. Doesn't feel as top heavy. I run a Harley chopped tourpak on my SGS and notice a huge difference when I take it off.
Yea it would have to be a big diff for me. I hate to admit it but have dropped my wife a couple times and she is leery of it/me now, lol. Can't blame her. Never happened on the sportster, but that is a HUGE weight difference, 560 to 920.
Well if I can't sell the thing outright, I will have to try the removable kit.
chopper man
I actually test rode a softtail std, a few days ago. It handles very light, way less than the ultra, but not 100% sold on the seating and leg position. Being only 5'6", the low seat is a real plus. The hard part for my test ride, was I rode to the dealership (40 miles) with my 3/4 helmet. The Ultra makes that easily possible. I was fine on the softtail up to about 55-60, above that and the wind tried to rip my helmet off my head. Made it a LOT harder to concentrate on the ride. I know I do NOT want a bike with a 3.5 gal tank though. My sporty had a 4.5 and it was small.
values are dropping like rocks? im eyeing goldwings and seems like pricing is holding pretty steady as far as asking prices. everyones at 12k for a 6-10 with abs and been like that awhile.
