I finally got my shocks delivered and installed them on Saturday morning. Initial thoughts are that they are nice but I do not have enough seat time for a proper evaluation. Hopefully this weekend I can put some miles on them. Set sag per Ohlins website at 3mm for my weight. Have not played with compression or rebound yet.
When I got mine I followed advice from FuelMoto expert. 1” sag with my weight on it. Then the dampening was recommended to set a 30 clicks. They come set at 22 and I started out splitting the difference at 26 clicks. Was quite happy with that until I set at 30. I will leave them at 30 clicks. I am extremely happy with them.
Congratulations on arguably, the best shocks you can get for your HD. I'm running these also. I purchased them straight through Ohlins. The tech I spoke with used the Ohlins spring calculator. I'm using zero preload, as prescribed from Ohlins, and when my wife is on the bike, I'm adding about 8mm more preload (Ohlins says to use 10mm, but we found it a little jarring).
For the compression and rebound settings, I went with the advice from the video below. Basically, set both compression and rebound to the middle position (15 clicks out from full in). I then dialed down the rebound 1 click and compression 2 clicks, and it's a really nice ride now. Plush, yet taut
Congrats! I love mine, but it took me a bit to get them set correctly. I messed up the sag setting on install, and was bummed! LOL I threw them on, headed out on a 2 week trip, and was pissed having spent $1500
The boys here on the site calmed me down, told me I was a ****-up, and I reinstalled them. Life is good!
I hid my reservoirs from view.
It made me want the NiX cartridges next! They are sweet, too.
I’ve had these for some years.. tried a few others. 2 up, there is no better shock IMO.
I used to subscribe to the set sag by mm theory.
I started using the set preload by mm calculator from Ohlins….and the ride is better for me.
I’ve set compression and rebound in the middle, I had to give rebound a click or two, that’s it.
I count turns now. 7 more for 2 up, less for solo. if I load up the bags/tour pack, I add a turn.
Simple…and one in a while I’ll get out my micrometer to measure top ring to shock to make sure I didn’t lose count of turns at one time or another…LOL.
SSG, give them a solid 500 to 1000 miles before you make any adjustments. Let them break in a little, then adjust if it were me…. Good luck. Great choice!
Thanks guys for all the input. I am confused on a few things however. Using Ohlins calculator on their website. they sag I should have 3mm of preload. Using the sag method, i have 14mm of preload. That's quite the difference. Now I always set sag on my sport bike at 1in geared up. So what am I missing? With 14mm Im at 1 1/8 sag.

Heres my input. Forget about trying to measure sag.
Put your bike, specs and weight in the calculator.
Set the preload based on the top of the adjustment collar to the top of the threaded area . Heres the measurement.
