Default 2023 flhtp

As some may have noticed I have been lurking the Police bike threads asking innumerable questions for the past few months.
Well, the reason being, thanks to Hulkss's thread, shortly after I bought my 2022 Ultra Limited FLHTK last fall, out comes the Hulkss thread ..... Jesus.

Before I even took the home Ultra in the spring, I ordered a 2023 FLHTP over the winter. I was never real happy about the FLHTK, even the day I signed the papers, but it was closest bike I could see offered that I wanted for a Touring bike. Beautiful bike but too much stuff for an old hillbilly like me.

I could not come clean on the Forum about what I was doing in my posts due to some of my 'superstitions'.

So I picked up the Ultra in the spring, put about 4k miles on it, and finally my TP arrives. After the rigmarole of 'civilianizing' it I received it and have put about 200 miles on it. I am avoiding operating it in the 90deg weather that we are having here, would rather do the break in on cooler days. In the mornings.

While waiting, over the winter I ordered a few items including the police style trunk in white - I knew that black TK was going to be like a glowing ember on hot days, and it was. I didn't even wanna go near it those days when we were out.
And some oem take off lower fairings, they're black. Haven't installed the lowers yet - letting some air flow around the engine for break in. I over think everything......

Not the best financial decision ever - I am not a rich guy but I don't feel too violated by the transactions ..... not to mention my wife is the best .....

This is the bike for me...... Thanks Hulk..

So there you go ...

Good to see that you found your "perfect" H-D. How does the ride compare between the two bikes?

Thanks man...
I noticed it to be a bit more nimble right away, I put that down to the tire sizes, and it is peppier I'm assuming due the the 110lb weight loss.

I have a question about the cooling fan on the oil cooler. Mine seems to push very little air. I understand that it only operates at low speed of travel. I check while stopped on very hot days. It seems to be whisper quiet, barely noticeable pushing any air foreword. Can anyone tell me if theirs seems to be blowing more robustly?

The seating position puts the rider in a more center position that makes the bike feel much more nimble. It also positions the rider about 3 inches up. I like my 2019 FLHTP. I added a king toupak and a Mustang police passenger pillion. I do not miss the radio, but with my bad hearing it is just noise at traveling speed.

The oil cooler fan pulls air through the cooler in the same direct if the bike was moving. It would not do a lot of good pushing air against the on coming air of a moving bike. Put your hand behind it. You'll find good air flow and it pulling a lot of heat off the cooler.

Which makes more sense to me. I thought that I read somewhere that it engaged only at low speed or stopped, and pushed air forward. Even so there’s not much action down there in hot conditions. I will continue to monitor. Can it be heard when operating?

Just like all models, there's an endless list of customization you can do to these bikes. I really like my FLHTP and do have a tourpack and passenger seat that I throw on when my wife joins me. One thing you might want to consider, other than a custom paint job, would be to add some custom decals to add a bit of color to the bike. I was really happy with the work that he did for me at Purple Iron.

I like my 2021 FLHTP, especially if I can get the radio wiring figured out.

When my oil cooler fan equipped bikes were hot and idling there was a very noticeable air flow behind the cooler.
If you can't feel a strong hot air flow with your hand a couple inches away from the fan go see your dealer. The fan has to "enabled" with the tech tool to run. It's possible that option got turned off during their setup or de policing.
