Default Radio Upgrades..

The new radios are barely louder than my exhaust. Upgrade ideas without breaking the bank? The Rockford Fosgate amp? Speakers? Both?

Default Radio Upgrades

I have a 23 Streetglide with same thoughts as you. I met a biker who had the Volunteer Audio set up with just the fairing speakers all made by Hertz. It sounded really good to me in Rock n Roll music which is my pick as well not that it matters. Looked it up and for whole set up is like $1650 and he had the same Boom head unit I have but it was much louder and clearer than mine which is the 2 stock speakers with it. I am leaning towards getting the Hertz neo165 speakers for the fairing first and see what that does that is without the amp install. I was told by a few it will sound a good bit clearer with less distortion but won’t make it much louder at all. Obviously that is opinionated, but I don’t need much louder (a little at highway speeds) but definitely need it to be clearer or less distorted. I believe the speakers are like $350 right now from Volunteer Audio. Thy are plug n play so I am leaning in that direction. If I get them I will let you know but I hope this helps a little. Take care and good luck.

I have a full Volunteer audio setup in my Ultra. I just sent the soundstream ( 4 years old ) off for a new screen so put a GTS in for the mean time. Good audio is not cheap. Know what your budget is and then work the best you can get into that. Im running 8 Hertz speakers, Hertz 900.4 amp soon to be joined with another 900.4 amp and my DSP. It can be a deep rabbit hole if you start spiraling.....lol There are many good brands other than Hertz thats just what I run.

A good-sounding stereo on a 90 DB (along with wind and traffic noise) motorcycle? Can someone please explain that to me cause I don't get it? I like my music but I get all I need out of helmet speakers. Maybe for bar-hoppers up and down the boulevard?

I am looking at doing the Rockford radio in mine.
Soundstream- In the 90's Soundstream was a big brand. The dropped down to very cheap junk in the automotive world. I keep hearing about how they have the best deck out there. So I started researching real reviews.
I found quite a few that complained of issues with them and one guy even had to regularly pull over and turn his bike off on a long trip because it would randomly freeze. That was enough for me, besides the cost of the unit being sky high and all of the add-on's being additional costs.

My buddy does car audio for a living and does a handful of bikes every month. He swears by the Rockford.

I have a 2018 Boom Audio with a Stage 2 upgrade. That is an amp and 2-way speakers. I had to have it flashed and it sounds much better than stock but nothing that would win any contests. I work on motorcycle at my house. My services were paid by the speakers and amp. All I had to buy was a $117 wire harness to complete the install. You might want to consider buying used equipment from facebook marketplace or ebay. My original head unit failed this summer and I purchased a used replacement for $299. It was originally set up for a electroglide with passenger speakers. When it was flashed for my street glide all the functions adjusted acoordinately.

Ride a 2011 with Reinhart duel exhaust 4" and have a Soundstream 98-13 installed last March along with Fosgate speakers and well with the 50 amps of power from the unit I have no problem listening to music and only having to turn the volume up to 35%.

I had a biketronics setup in my old 2014 FLHTK which I loved - much louder than stock. The amp also came with a lifetime guarantee. I think they make a more powerful amp now than the one i Had. A bit pricey but you get what you pay for.
