I ordered the new cover for '22 this last summer. It said it was on terminal backorder at the time, but it showed up in a week. If you want one, order it, it may show up quicker than you think.
Been on order now for 3-4 weeks....... We'll see............
Is the factory cover plastic or metal and if metal, is a chrome one available? The one on my bike now is chrome and I'd kinda like the replacement to be chrome too.
The new HD part separates oil vapor much better than any of the aftermarket. It's cheap and worth waiting for.
Blends right in too - doesn't need to be a show piece... Working amazingly well on my 17.
If I'm reading this correctly, the 2017 M8 does not have the later/better transmission cover system. Would this vented transmission cover do the same thing?
That is the perfect way to get water into your oil, a really poor setup...

I thought of that too. If I were to go that route, I would run a hose off of the cover and vent it downwards to the atmosphere. This picture is just to show what's available.
I didn't want to wait for the factory cover. I ordered the NiceCNC, and it works just fine. It comes with a gasket, hose and fitting to put the filter on. It also has a reed valve under the vent hole. It's well made, only thing I don't like is the window, I might black it out, but you can't really see it unless you stick your head in there. I routed the hose up under the seat and back down.

The reed valve part would worry me.
You don't want anything to restrict the flow of crankcase pressure from the cases.
I don't believe the HD trans cover vent system has any valves.... I will surely be corrected if I am wrong.
I believe it is the design of the HD trans cover that completely coalesces the oil out of the crank case vapors, returning any oil back to the oil pan. That is how I believe you want a proper CCV system to function.
I've read many reports about the HD trans vent CCV cover saying how well it works. There are a couple riht here in this thread.
I've read too many good reports on the HD trans cover CCV system for me to want to experiment with an aftermarket company, with mixed reviews, making a gaggle of different parts from foot pegs to see-thru derby covers, and numerous racks and mounts for chassis pieces. Most of which look like knockoffs of other's stuff.
Actually, according to Google anyway, the HD cover does incorporate a check valve built into the assembly.
But after thinking this through, and since winter is coming and I won't be doing a lot of riding, I'm inclined to wait for the factory cover and just run a hose to the atmosphere. I really like the way that Dan89FLSTC did his. Very simple and clean.
