I have the same dimensions as you and herniated my disks when I was a teenager and have dealt with it ever since.
Over the years I have tried many different brands of seats and have had custom seats made, by far, hands down the best was a police solo with spring over coil suspension, (stay away from the air bladder style). The trade off its butt ugly, and you will wallow up and down going over bumps which adds to the comfort, but takes away from the bikes stability when leaned over on curves at highway speed.
On my last 2 bikes I have used a Le Perra Maverick Daddy Long Legs with gel insert and all leather construction. It's a close second to the police seat, my present Daddy Long Legs I opted for the raised seat to get my butt higher than my knees. And leather breaths, you won't get swamp *** with leather like you do with vinyl. The whole package makes for a comfortable ride.
I realize my reply doesn't address any of your questions, but I thought I'd offer some insight, I've been riding for a long time and have clocked over 1,000,000 Kms
I'm in the same situation - 6.2 (198lbs) tall with long legs and arms. I had my Tall Boys seat modified by a local upholsterer (raised the height one inch), I installed the floorboard lowering kit previously.
Issue now is I get shoulder pain because the reach is different than before. Hip pain was reduced quite a bit but is still there. Wind buffeting didn't seem like a problem, but I haven't slabbed on the highway yet. Slippery slope time to now get different handlebars, possibly a taller windshield, and then I still need to get a rear brake extension for the lower boards. No guarantees any of these mods will work. *sigh*...
As my friend always says to me, "They don't make things to fit Sasquatch."
why do i differ ? i am 6-1 / 34 inseam...i run an extended reach seat and love it. every bike i have owned gets the bad lander from HD or similar. current ride has a mustang and i love it...super comfy.
Stormin I get you as far as your seating position goes. On my nekkid bikes I run drag bars which give me a slight forward lean into the wind which works well on the highway. For my touring bike though I understand mynewhd's situation. In my case after moving the seat back with the tall boys brackets the stock bars didn't work for me because they were too low, it wasn't just a forward lean like my other bikes, it was forward and down which was painful. The KST reduced reach bars fixed that problem nicely. I'm locked in with my backrest and have a relaxed arm position with good legroom. In my opinion that is the sweet spot for a touring bike.
In other words, aggressive riding positions for aggressive riders and bikes, and relaxed riding positions for relaxed riders and bikes.
I am 6'7" with a 36" inseam. For many years folks told me to get a police set on my ElectraGlides. In 2021 I bought my third ElectraGlide. A 2019 FLHTP with the police seat. My hip are now slightly higher than my knees, an I am back to comfortable 500+ miles days. Should have doe this many years ago.
So it all depends if you are setting your bike up for show or to travel on. Form over function or function over form? Your bike, your back, your decision.
Do you have or have ya tried the tallboys floorboard brackets (2" down and 2" fwd)?
I put a set on a friend's 2013 and instantly ordered and installed a set on my 2019.
He is 6'7" as well and @ 69 years old has rode no less than a million miles and now for 1st time in his life doesnt stay on his crashbar pegs and actually uses his floorboards.
We both have the stock height suspension and have 0 issues dragging.
Tough call, especially with your back concerns. Every rider seems to have a different experience concerning seats and other comfort options. I'm 6'-2" tall, I bought a Corbin seat shortly after getting my road glide and I really like it, especially after breaking it in. I didn't recognize true comfort on my bike until I got 12" KST bars and a klock werks windshield a couple of years ago, and it's perfect for me. It sounds like you have the bars/windshield parts figured out. If there is any way you can sit on some street glides with different seats, maybe at your local dealer has a bunch of used bikes with aftermarket seats(?)you can get an idea what night work for you. I have tried mustang and saddleman seats on previous bikes I owned, I checked return policies at the time for both before buying and I ended up sending them back pretty quickly.
