Seems like all it does is divert the air from the top of the windshield into your chest. How is that an improvement?
The vent does have a lever that opens & closes it and the air is directed up at the shield and not directed at your body/face...
I checked the new bikes out today, pretty impressed with the saddlebag lid opening lever and the linked braking. Touch screen is nice but is it really needed on a motorcycle.
I also test drove a 2014 Breakout....Not a bike for someone pushing 60 and used to a fairing....Hunched over while riding sucks. Lots of power but that's all I got good to say about it.
Guess I'll be riding my antique 2009 Street Glide for a few more years.
I've got, so its seems by post count the worst bike for buffeting, my first Harley, with a 10" wind vest and lid WITHOUT visor, don't know what you speak of, buffeting???? I can't figure it out at 5'10"??
Think your lid has more to do with it, along with the right shield combo, then fairing, shield, vent hole alone!

I've read multiple reviews across the net and all say the vent provides a 20 percent reduction in buffeting.
20 percent ?
That's all adding a vent does ?
I get the fairing redesign and the vent certainly makes it all the more obvious that there's a new sheriff in town, although it's not a deal killer,I'd rather have seen them stay ventless.
Long Ride recurve shield on my '08 FLHTCU is taking care of business just fine....
Yea, there is no doubt that buffeting was a major issue on my 2012 Street Glide. However, the solution was simple and relatively inexpensive. I'm not remotely interested in trading in for a 2014.
I have a 2012 street glide also, how just did you get rid of the buffeting problem?
Because buffeting has been one of the major issues discussed in this forum I wonder if Harley Davidson really solved the buffeting issue with adding the mailbox to the batwing.
Please let me know if you rode one.
Not that I'm interested in trading my 07SG but just wondering....
If so, I think I will make a slot in my windshield to try to achieve the same result as with the mailbox and get some air behind the batwing. Anyone already tried this in the past?
Since riding our 14, i can say withot question wind buffeting wise there is a absolute night and day difference compared to earler models

So I'm down in Florida and rented a 14 street glide today. Drove all over enjoying the bike. First time riding a street glide. I ride a 13 street bob.
- great power
-very comfortable
-loved the radio
The negatives:
Am I missing something or is the wind buffeting unbearable at high speeds?
Over 40mph and it is literally uncomfortable pressure all around my head and face.
-front end dives on braking. Guess I'm just thrilled with my new ricor insets back home!
I was thinking of buying this bike but the wind buffeting is so severe that it defeats the purpose of the bike for me , long distance riding .
The mailbox slot didn't do **** on the Road King CVO - in fact, in some instance it made the buffeting worse. But on the 14 FLHTK, it eliminates the buffeting about 99%. You asked!

I've had mine up to 180 Kmh + and there is very little in the way of buffeting, the bike handles awesome, brakes are excellent and lots of power. As for being uncomfortable at 40 mph? seriously? I smell troll here - 5 posts pfffft
