Can't ride so i have just been spending time it the garage.Does anyone that has an iphone 5 with verizion been able to receive text. If so any help on what i have to do to get it to work.Bluetooth is working and phone is ok but no text
Yes, I've finally gotten it to work. Here are the steps:
1. On your iPhone: Settings, Bluetooth, then turn on bluetooth.
2. A list of paired devices will display (only H-D Radio will be displayed if that's the only device you've paired with your particular iPhone).
3. Touch the circled letter "I" next to H-D Radio, which will slide open another page.
4. Turn on the "Show Notifications" feature. Make sure you have "Sync Contacts" turned on also. Beneath that there are a list of "Groups". Mine has "Phone Favorites", "Phone Recents", and "All contacts" checked off.
This should allow received texts. Keep in mind that you can't read them unless the bike is stopped. You will see an envelope icon at the bottom of the H-D Radio display to alert you that a message has been received. Also, the "auto-reply" function on the H-D Radio will not work due to the proprietary Apple messaging software, although this feature does work on Android phones. Hope this helps...
Man I wish it was that easy I've been trying for the last 3 weeks to get that to work and no way, everything else works but cannot receive text through the bike. I called my carrier to make sure I had the right plan also called Apple this morning to see if they could help but they said as long as I'm receiving texts through my phone while I stand next to the bike then it's most likely the bike. I've updated firmware set everything in phone where it should be but nothing. I called dealer and they called Moco and when I bring bike in to replace the blown speaker they are going to run a diagnostic on the info centre to try and see why its not working.
You also have to go to your settings on the iPhone.
Go to Bluetooth, find HD Radio there should be a blue exclamation. Touch it and make sure the show notification is on. Now u can get text. Go to com, then phone, it will show u text and it will read it to you while u are riding.
Keep in mind that you can't read them unless the bike is stopped. You will see an envelope icon at the bottom of the H-D Radio display to alert you that a message has been received. Mmm, from what I remember (it has been a few months since I touched the bike) I was able to go into the Comm and it would show my inbox and I could go to a text and it would read it to me thru my speakers while I was riding.
Sadly Apple wont allow 3rd party apps to access the messaging so the auto reply will never work...
Is it really that important? I guess I'm thinking that if its an emergency someone will be calling me and I will be able to answer and talk to them thru the phone while I'm riding. If they just text me I will get the message and then have the bike read it to me and if its important I will call them thru the bike or pull over and talk to them. Maybe sooner or later Apple will relax and let the auto reply feature work for us. Till then I'll work around it.
