Default For those that've changed bars...

It seems like every bar thread for every model has conflicting info on what cables need changed and what ones don't. My bars should be here Monday and I'm hoping to get them on Tuesday and I'd like to have everything I need instead of waiting around a few days for another cable. They're 13" bars on a SGS. So, for those of you that have done 12-14" bars what did you have to change?

Subscribed. Doing Vindikta bagger bars in 12" this spring. Namz 8" wire extensions seems to be the norm. Not sure if I can get away with the stock clutch and brakes line. Really don't want to reroute...

I just did my FLHX with Yaffe Monkey Bars 12". Nothing to reroute. You have three zip ties to cut that will give you room. The wires will need extending. to removing brake or clutch hoses. Losen the banjo up a hair to move it in line with the bars.

Monty if those bars wont fit your heated grips they probably need to be reamed out by a 15/16 HS drill bit. I just did my buddys 2010 CVO FLHX and that is what I did. Go in 4.25" and your good to go.

When I did my bars on my '12 FLHX I installed +6 cables and didn't have to extend the wiring. On my '14 Ultra I installed +6 cables and added 12" wire extentions bought from HD. I just liked the way everything was routed on the new bike and wanted to keep it that way. I will say that the wiring from the switch housings bearly fit and were right at the opening at the clamps.

Okay thanks for the tips, I've already ordered the NAMZ 8" extensions. I guess I'm going to just try to loosen the banjos and adjust the cables. I tried doing that on my Fat Bob when I changed bars and the damned clutch cable was still too short lol.

Just wondering if you guys that changed out bars think it made a difference in handling etc.

I cannot seem to get used to this 14 limited, it's been to the shop 2 times and will be there 3 as of Tuesday, I have very odd handling issues going on that they can't figure out, The Harley rep is going to check it out in about a week.

Yesterday I was riding on a road with moderate sweepers with a posted speed limit of 65 and I had too to slow 50 just to make the curve, it felt like I was braking in the curve which makes a bike want to stand up, but I was not braking, very frustrated at this point.

I've got 12" vindikta's on the way for my SGS. Honestly, if I put them on and find out I could have fit 14" bars without changing lines, I'll probably order the 14's and sell the 12's. The 12's should be here in a few weeks, from all my research, it looks like 12's are a guarantee to fit, 13's or higher is a gray area.

Where'd you get your cables from? Looks like Magnum only has clutch cables. Did you have to have the dealer bleed your brakes? I was reading on another forum today that the bikes that have ABS has to be done by the dealer.

I'm dropping mine off tomorrow for KST Custom Mayhem 14's. Tech told me that I have to extend all the lines and it's like $300. I'll know more in the next day or 2.
