So what are the settings on your iPhone 5s that let you do this? I've read several threads and try as I might I can't get it to work after months of trying. Any hints?
I've heard you need to turn off iMessage and a number of other settings, but nothing has worked for me so far.
So, your effing around with your info center while riding!!! WTF, is wrong with you. I don't care if you use the controls or get commands through your headset, your still being distracted. The same goes for all you other 'Distracted Motorcycle Riders'!!!!!
An LEO requesting to be able to read text messages while they are driving.......
Who said that? I'd like the bike to read them to me
For me, it's not that I care about having the ability....it's more about the bike doing everything it says it can do. It drives me nuts for anything to be broken.

Iphone 5s wont let 3rd party read txts.. Hopefully Apple will address this in the future.. It will try to sync your sms messages but gives you an error msg after a few minutes.. Ive asked around and the word on the street is that ots an Iphone issue...
I think you are confusing the ability to send the auto-reply message with the text reading. The iPhone works fine with reading texts. You must go into the bluetooth settings on the iPhone and select the HD system and allow it to communicate.

Did you have to turn off iMessage or anything else to make it work? I have iMessage-ON, Send Read Receipts-ON, Send as SMS-ON, MMS Messaging-ON, and Group Messages-ON. Everything else is turned off and my bike says there is an error syncing.
For the record, I COMPLETELY agree with all of you who think it would be insane for someone to look through all the menus to get to their texts while driving. I'm thinking there are plenty of times when I'm off the road and my phone will be in the tour pack or elsewhere.....it would be easier to hear the texts through my headset than hopping off to dig my phone out.

On your phone go to "settings" / "bluetooth" / click on the (i) for H-D Radio and make sure the "show notifications" is turned on.

That should do it!
You my friend, are a genius! That did the trick (almost). I also had to turn off iMessage so all my incoming messages were SMS. Thank you. It is pretty cool how it reads the texts!
