Default Eitms 14 limited

This might be a stupid question but here goes. I just came off a 2001 ultra that didn't have eitms but my new 14 limited does. How often does it kick on at idle? I was riding through the country around 55mph and temp outside was 83 and when I stopped at a red light it kicked on and I thought it was missing til I remembered it had eitms on and I looked and it said active. Give it a little throttle and it kicked off but came back on while sitting at idle. While riding its fine. Is this normal operation.

From what I have read in the operators manual for my 2014 SGS it is exactly how it is supposed to work. You can disable it yourself if you want it is better explained in the manual.

What you describe is normal. I'm finding on my 14 Ultra it is much more sensitive now than in past years. My 08 and 12 did not go into heat mode nearly as soon as the 14 does. Not a problem, just different.

On the pre 14 bikes it wouldn't kick in until the rear cylinder head temp reach a certain temp. By then it was already hot. On the 14's they changed it so that anytime the air temp is over 80 it will activate to help keep the motor from getting hot to start with. They made it pro active.

cool news there. I haven't ridden in over 80 temp yet since last winter so mines been normal. The cool air temp button is nice to see air temp outside while I'm riding so ill check it out when its engages.

If it were me I might turn it off until the air temp gets over 90,,,,,, then after those kinda days are there for good engage it all the time of course. be interesting to see what it feels like to take off with only one cylinder till the system kicks the other in.

You twist the throttle forward to enable or disable it, the cruse control light will flash during the process. But if you pull up the Info screen you can see when it is enabled or disabled while you twist forward .

I was wondering about this it was 82 today and it activated a block from my house at the light. Was getting ready to ask the dealer about it at my 1000 mile service. My book says nothing about outside temp being above 80. I Have an owners manual for a 13 and a 14 and the wording in both is identical It says it activates when engine temperature exceeds 284 F.

It turns off in a fraction of a second as soon as you move the throttle. You can't feel it.
