Messaging..... Again

Messaging..... Again
We keep talking about text messaging and various issues. Just wondering if anyone has encountered this and if they figured it out.
When I first got my new Ultra, I couldn't get text messages. I continually got an error message "There was an error syncing SMS messages." This kept occurring until one day I noticed I got a message. It was probably several weeks after I got the bike that it finally started working. That was with my iphone 4s.
Now, I just got a new 5s, and I's seeing the same error. Same as before. I've tried rebooting the phone, rebooting the radio, and all sorts of various combinations thereof. The only other thing I got tonight was a new error "The connected device does not support SMS over Bluetooth." which I know isn't right. That one only appeared once.
I am not talking about the auto reply issue. It simply will not sync messages at all.
I have no idea why it started working in the first place on the old 4s. Maybe it will start working on its own again. Any other ideas on whats happening? Messaging was working fine until I changed phones. The Boombox owners guide is no help with this. Thanks for your input.
