Why will harley issue a recall? As long as we pay to replace these or file the piece of junk. They are laughing all the way to the bank.
People don't bat an eye at thousands of dollars to replace stuff, but a $4 gas cap has your goat?
Stock on the left, Stant on the right
The Stant is 1/16" smaller diameter than stock. That's a tiny amount, but all the world of a difference.
Just in case anyone is wondering ---- The gasket is exactly the same.
CSMHOG - Why did you remove service bulletin M1428 that Harley finally admits they have with the fuel caps? Guys with bikes under warranty would benefit from it.
I just bought a 2016 SGS & have only gotten gas once so far.I had trouble putting my gas cap on after the fill up.Thought I was the only one til I saw this thread.Hell,I'd a switched off my 2011 had I known this.
Some where on here is a thread where guys are talking about just sanding down the very lower lip of the gas cap below the threads. I did that yesterday. Used fine grit sandpaper and only took it down so that portion was not shiny. Took about 4 min and cap works perfectly now.

Many including myself have tried the sanding/filing process at least once. For me I tried it 3 times and the problem repeats itself after a month or so. I then got the $4.00 Stant fuel cap from Walmart and so far it's working as designed. Harley does have a redesigned fuel cap (TSB) available so they know they have a problem. Trouble is, for many of us with bikes out of warranty, the cap will cost at least $14.00 from the dealer. I didn't want to chance getting the official Harley fuel cap and possibly getting an old stock fuel cap, so the Stant cap seems like a good choice for me.
