Default New Classic

Finally picked up my new Candy Orange Ultra Classic. Put about 75 miles on it. The most impressive thing to me was the handling. Very neutral steering and predictable in corners especially at lower speeds where my previous Harleys were not so confidence inspiring. Never felt like it was falling into corners or had to be pushed more than what felt natural. I have the 6.5 radio with the 300 watt Boom upgrade with speakers. I am impressed with the sound but it's not audiophile quality like you'd find in cars today. That's to be expected. Radios don't sound as good in convertibles with the top down. Still messing with the highway peg location for the perfect relaxed position. I don't think I'll use 'em as much as I thought. I'd forgotten what a pleasure it is to have floorboards! Power is fine and the engine spools up faster and more smoothly than my 2012 Wide Glide 103. Brakes are excellent, and though the foot brake has good sensitivity compared to that on my Wide Glide, I'll probably be using the hand brake 99% of the time. I'll have to put a few more miles on the seat before I make up my mind about it's suitability for long distance. The windshield is surprisingly good at keeping most of the wind off me. When I stuck my hand down over the mailbox slot I couldn't believe how hard the air blasts right up along the axis of the shield.

I would reconsider your braking technique. Even though the reflex brakes even out the braking, it still does not compare to proper braking using both the front and rear brakes.

I use the foot brake when making slow speed U-turns. As I understand it, the hand and foot brake do the same thing over 20mph. It's just faster and easier to use the hand brake since I usually have a finger or two over the lever anyway. Not sure if it's "proper" but that's how I do it.

Trick for your highway peg set up. Adjust them to a height where you can rest the back of your heel on the very front of the floor board, and your toe on the highway peg. You'll thank me later...

That's how I've always had mine. Very comfortable, even around town.

Are your highway pegs the long or short angle arms. I am trying to figure out which ones I need to adjust it so as stated by Montycop Adjust them to a height where you can rest the back of your heel on the very front of the floor board, and your toe on the highway peg. Montycop which ones do you have?

Congrats on the new bike. That candy orange is getting popular; 2nd thread I've seen.

My only issue w/ highway pegs is that oversized brake pedal. Kind of interferes with the right foot when out on the peg. I put a set of 3/4" Kury spacers on the floorboards and it helped but still a bit of an annoyance. I may have to reposition a bit until I find that sweet spot.

I use the short angled. Can't imagine needing the long angled: you'd have to be about 5'1" lol
